Is it true...smoking in cabins??

I'm actually quite astonished at this, but know that agents with NCL have given false information in the past so I thought I would ask the question here.

 

My mom, brother and other family are going to be on the Jewel in a couple of weeks. They have an inside cabin and I told her that she would have to find the smoking area on the open decks. She then informed me that the agent they booked the cruise through told her that she could smoke in her cabin. I told her that there is no way they would allow that. It is a huge fire hazard (not to mention completely disgusting...IMHO).

 

So...does anyone out there have the right answer? Will she be allowed to smoke in the cabin or was the agent very, very wrong?

The husband has always smoked in our cabin. On every cruise we've been on, it's never been an issue.

NCL does a great job of removing any smoke odors in the cabins. If by chance, they did not do a good job on your cabin, immediately request that they do a "deep cleaning" and in a few hours (you will have to be gone), it will be great. They use ozone generators.

 

You may get smoke odors in the hall from other cabins or on your balcony from nearby smokers.

 

Stay out of the Casino and anywhere near the entrance!!

Both DW and I are former smokers and very attuned to the smell and haven't had an issue yet. If your cabin does reek then go straight to the guest services desk and in 2 hours you'll never know it.

I can't stand the smell of cigerette smoke either. When entering our cabin, I found it reeked of smoke and my children are asthmatic. I summoned the room steward and told her I was not happy. SHe came back with some little machine ionizer and once turned on it eliminates the smell of smoke. She set it for like 20 minutes and then came back to retrieve it. I asked her if we could keep it until the next day bc we liked the odor it gave off like a clean bleach smell of some sort. She left it for us and we continued to use it. Kids had no problems what so ever. Room smelled fine after that or the rest of the week.

This is not a good thing for me, if my room smell's of smoke I cant sleep. Its that bad for me,I cant smell a lot of things but smoke is the one thing that stands out and makes me sick, sick.

This happened to us once. We called housekeeping and they asked us to give them 2 hours. When we returned it was fine.

I should add that I would never sail with them for that reason. :D

I wonder why hotels don't use them? The smell of perfume mixed with stale smoke really is no better than just the old smoke.

Some hotels do. We had an odor problem in a room once (not smoke) and they brought in the ionizer for a couple of hours or so.

where did you get the idea she could not smoke in her cabin. All but one mass marketed lines allows smoking in cabins.

But at least on RCCL smoking is permitted on all private ocean front balconies, including Loft Suite balconies on Oasis Class.

I was interested to see the smoking policy in the freestyle dailies on our Jewel 1/31/10 cruise that it said "smoking is permitted inside your stateroom". I wondered if that would mean that smoking on balconies would not be allowed. That would be a much better idea as far as I am concerned. I know the machines they use to remove the smoke odors from previous guests do work, and this way it would eliminate the problem of smoke coming from a nearby balcony for those of us who can't stand the smell of smoke while enjoying our balconies.
