Cabin Flooding On The Pacific Dawn

Recommended Posts

I heard that a water pipe on the Pacific Dawn broke yesterday somewhere on deck 11 causing flooding and water damage to six cabins. This has also caused a few problems with some of the wiring around the ship. This along with a rocky voyage across the Tasman hasn't been a good start to the NZ bound cruise. But the crossing will be worth while when they reach the sunny shores of New Zealand.

Unfortunately, that is not a totally uncommon occurence on cruise ships.

Pacific Dawn is a nice ship, we sailed her twice while she was still Regal Princess:

Singapore to Bejing, Mar 2001.

Buenos Aire to Valparaiso, Mar 2006.

Well as they say: "..it happens" :p

And there is always the chance of an "interesting ride" when crossing the Tasman.:D

Plus the fact that there should be quite a swell running as the remnanats of that cyclone in Tonga were heading that way last week. :)

Aaah the joys of cruising. ;)

Regal Princess now Pacific Dawn is a good sea boat too, we were on her last voyage Regal, from LA Harbour to Sydney, left LA Harbour 31 August 2007, got to Sydney 2 October, albeit with some damage to the bow and upper decks, due to hitting 40 foot seas off bottom of South Island of NZ. Yes that Tasman Sea and Southern Ocean can be very rough. Pacific Dawn will handle it, she is more of a sea boat than these 19 deck mega ships around now.

18 months ago On her sister ship the Sun Princess in the middle of the night 12 cabins were flooded out through the pipework running above their wardrobes All their clothes were wet and there was 10 inches of water on the floor They rehoused them for the rest of the night (although the ship was 'full)

They got laundry done and a bottle of wine!!

I hope Sandy (sandielle) was not one of the unlucky ones. :)

This must be a common occurance it happened to us last year on Pacific Dawn. Our cabin was flooded when a water pipe burst right outside our cabin door. we were lucky that we didn't have anything on the floor at all so nothing got wet.

They removed all the furniture from our cabin, ripped out the carpet, dried out the cabin and put new carpet down. The biggest inconvenience was that the water was turned off right throughout the ship for most of the day.

We received, Wine and Flowers for the inconvenience which wasn't great as we were ashore most of the day:).

Cabin flooding...a cruiser's nightmare. It also happened several times on the Dawn Princess last October. Carpets had to be replaced. It's a bit risky storing suitcases under the bed.

When we were waiting to board our Pacific Dawn cruise for NYE, I man sitting next to us told us that he had just spoken to a couple that had just got off, and they told him that there was flooding in their cabin on deck 9 during their cruise. He said they got a full refund for the inconvience. I'm not sure if it was true or not, but there does seem to be some major problems with the Pacific Dawn at the moment. Lets hope the problems are fixed for good when she goes into dry dock.

Hey All,

Currently on the PD. Sandy, and all the CC'ers for that matter, that we've met, are doing fine and having a great time!

Not sure what the rough weather report came out of, but it's only become really bad in the past 4 or so hours, previous to that it was fairly smooth, apparently, for the Tasman.

Some questions are up in the air about getting into the Fjords in a few hours, or at least how much we will see, but like its been said....who knows what the weather will bring in this part of the world. Many of the decks are currently closed due to the winds - but again, this has only happened within the last four hours or so (remember, its about 2.03am here, so many had retired with a big day ahead of them before things really got bad).

The captain did mention a flooding incident, but not much gossip around the ship has been heard about that!

Will keep you up to date!!!

From the Web Cam it looks like you have skipped Fjordland. Is that right?
