IWORK2CRUISE Posted February 22, 2010 #1 Share Posted February 22, 2010 Hi all, I am looking to book the Explorer and there is a good residence rate on the promenade cabins. Who has stayed in one on deck 6? How was the noise? There is some availability on 7 and 8 as well but I like the position of the deck 6 cabin. Thanks! I just got off the Explorer and booked one for the same reason you might. A residence promo. I strongly urge you to pass it up and book a regular inside. I had 7307 and contrary to other's opinions, you will hear noise. Anytime there is a band playing (often) or parade. you'll hear it through the window. PR cabins are also smaller with less storage space. Would never book another one. What date are you going?
Rare silentbob007 Posted February 22, 2010 #3 Share Posted February 22, 2010 I heard bass on deck 6 on Mariner and perhaps a little seepage but that's about it. We were over the Cafe so we were a little bit away from any live music.
IWORK2CRUISE Posted February 22, 2010 Author #4 Share Posted February 22, 2010 Thanks, SeaUs. 6307 is one of the available cabins. I think I like 6591. We are looking at May 13.
coupleofcruisers Posted February 22, 2010 #5 Share Posted February 22, 2010 My parents (in their 70's) had a PR on the Explorer on Deck 7 and loved it! My mother especially liked the bow window for "people watching" and she could see when sale tables were on the Promenade! :) They also never complained one bit about noise and believe me they would have told me if they had heard anything! ;) Do a search and you will see many people really like these cabins and you may also learn of a specific cabin that is good/not so good to book. Check some of the online web sites and you will find there are other cabins available besides the two you've mentioned on deck 6. Of those two I also would choose 6591 in preference over 6307 because it's over the Logo Shop which will not be open late into the night. I would just caution against booking one over the pub, Champagne Bar or any location that may appear to have a potential problem with noise. Good Luck! Batch5 Posted February 22, 2010 #6 Share Posted February 22, 2010 We had 8609 on the Explorer, never heard any noise, room was very spacious with two couches. We watched the Halloween parade from our room and thought it was great. That was our first inside room and did not feel claustrophobic we would do it again. Good luck Chris
nycny Posted February 22, 2010 #7 Share Posted February 22, 2010 We were on the Explorer a few years ago -- deck 6 -- with connecting cabins on the promenade. We hated it and would never book it again. After playing hard all day, we were ready to collapse when we finally got back to the room. Then we would struggle to fall asleep to the "beat" of whatever was playing. One other thing to consider is that you have to be careful and pull the curtains or people can see into your cabin. If you have to have one, make sure it is not a connecting cabin. With those, you can hear everything in the next cabin. In mine you could see the light on in that cabin. KeywestK Posted February 22, 2010 #9 Share Posted February 22, 2010 We were in PR cabin 6611 on Explorer and loved it. It was very quiet, and it was right by the elevators. Great cabin! Karen
green eyed lady Posted February 22, 2010 #10 Share Posted February 22, 2010 We were in 6281 on AOS and loved it so much we booked the same exact cabin on Explorer for Sept. We were right over the casino stairs - no noise - great for people watching and best of all - 1 flight down to the cookies ;) I highly recommend it - much better than an inside :D
bigeagle12 Posted February 22, 2010 #11 Share Posted February 22, 2010 We love the Promenade rooms. Always book deck 8 center of the Promenade. No noise on 8 except during Parades. ALways quiet after 10 or 11. Heard 6 is pretty quiet also except during parades or if over one of the bars (music).
IWORK2CRUISE Posted February 22, 2010 Author #12 Share Posted February 22, 2010 Thanks for all of the input. I actually have 6307 on hold. It does not seem to be right over music. I lined up the deck plans and think that it will be between guest relations and Tommy Hilfiger. I guess I will need to make my mind up later this evening. :)
pach Posted February 22, 2010 #13 Share Posted February 22, 2010 We just booked our first promenade room. I am excited about it. Last November we had our first interior room, my husband hated it, I talked him into this because of the promenade. We were originally on floor 8 but I switched yesterday to the 6th floor, 6595,because he wanted to windows to the promenade. I am looking forward to people watching and the parade. I wear earplugs so I am not worried about noise, plus we will be out and about until late in the night anyway. I am hoping to enjoy the room because the price can NOT be beat!!! starlake Posted February 22, 2010 #14 Share Posted February 22, 2010 We will be in our 3rd promenade cabin this April. They have all been on the 6th floor. I have stayed in different areas and have enjoyed each one. The room is smaller than most inside rooms, but there is plenty of space for 2 people. The noise has really never bothered us. I guess we are heavy sleepers. :) I always enjoy people watching from the room and it is easy to walk down one floor to grab that early morning coffee. Heatherco Posted February 22, 2010 #16 Share Posted February 22, 2010 We've had promenade cabins before on the Mariner and Navigator and while I really like them over an inside because you have a window to look out, I did think they were noisy. My parents had one on deck 6 and we had one last cruise on deck 8. There cabin we could hear things more coming from the promenade. On deck 8, however, we had a noisy closet...which sounds ridiculous. But..the hangers kept shaking in the closet all night. Not a big deal, but just pointing it out. We wound up taking them out of the closet. But..I would book one again in a heartbeat.
IWORK2CRUISE Posted February 24, 2010 Author #17 Share Posted February 24, 2010 Thanks for all of the thoughts and advisement. We decided that as long as we were going with the Promenade we might as well be able to have a good view. Some hear noise, some do not. We selected 6281 and will see for ourselves. Heatherco: It usually helps to push the empty hangars close together at the end.

In mine you could see the light on in that cabin. Darn, I booked a junior suite for next Feb and it is a connecting cabin ... but I need a HC cabin for 3 and it was what was available ... Should I bring a draft stopper to shove under the door? I noticed that for example with the bathroom door there was like a 1 inch gap under the bottom of it... Hubby was a frequent flier down to the cafe for coffee for us =) I was the gimp in the wheelchair =) Well not entirely correct, the first few meals I did use crutches but the standing and walking for the MDR or the Windjammer was too much.=(
