warmwinds Posted March 22, 2010 #1 Share Posted March 22, 2010 For our upcoming cruise there are senior discounts in many, but not all, categories. Obviously, not in the one we're booked in. Do you think they should be offered across the board or do you think it's ok for Celebrity to pick and choose (obviously based on what categories they want to sell). But it still stinks for those of us who are booked in the orphan categories. Just venting.
BEAV Posted March 23, 2010 #2 Share Posted March 23, 2010 Celebrity sometimes offers senior/resident rates on categories that aren't selling as well as others. To get a better perspective on your situation, can you give us details as to what ship/sailing you're on? And what categories are offering senior rates? warmwinds Posted March 23, 2010 Author #3 Share Posted March 23, 2010 Bermuda, June 27. We're in C1, no discount, but C2 and a couple of other veranda categories, yes, senior discounts. I didn't really check non-veranda, inside, suite categories.
BEAV Posted March 23, 2010 #4 Share Posted March 23, 2010 In case you aren't aware, you can downgrade from your C1 to a C2 senior rate and should either get the difference refunded ($350 per person) or applied as shipboard credit. Just because you're booked in a category that isn't currently offering a senior rate doesn't mean you can't switch to a cateogry that is. Good luck with whatever you decide to do! warmwinds Posted March 23, 2010 Author #5 Share Posted March 23, 2010 Like I'd give up my aft, ROFL. No thanks.
BEAV Posted March 23, 2010 #6 Share Posted March 23, 2010 Which is exactly why you're not seeing senior discounts on the popular C1 category. Only 1 is currently left for your sailing, whereas lots of C2 cabins are available. If you were a business owner, would you discount items that are flying off the shelves at full prices? ROFL here, too! :D

ROFL here, too! :D Well said, BEAV. We often forget that Celebrity is a business and as such is there to make money. I would like the 'good old days' pricing on the C1 aft facing cabins too. We used to book those but this is a clear case of supply and demand. There is extra demand for the aft cabins with bigger balconies consequently any smart business proprietor would charge more. We went another direction. We found that C1 pricing was a lot closer to what a Sky Suite would cost so we started booking Sky Suites. We found them to be addictive. Thanks to =X= for giving us that nudge.:p:p
ORCRUISER Posted March 23, 2010 #8 Share Posted March 23, 2010 Same with Military rates and discounts. Offered in some categories and not in others on the same cruise. I am sure it is "supply and demand."
Wine-O Posted March 23, 2010 #9 Share Posted March 23, 2010 Bermuda, June 27. We're in C1, no discount, but C2 and a couple of other veranda categories, yes, senior discounts. I didn't really check non-veranda, inside, suite categories. They're not going to discount the C1's as they are the premium staterooms. We're on the 30 May Summit to Bermuda, and the C1's are going for $1599, but you can get a C2 or C3 for $979/949 respectively with the Military discount. I think residency rates might apply also. You gotta keep checking. We were originally in a C1 but when they had a one/two day sale of FV's for much, much less, I jumped on one of those. The C1's have the big balcony on the aft end, with a few on deck 6. If you don't want the big balcony, switch to a C2 or a C3 and use the rest of the money for specialty restaurants and/or martinis. eandj Posted March 23, 2010 #10 Share Posted March 23, 2010 Supply and demand. You won't find big deals on verandahs on Alaskan cruises. But you can get an inside room for close to nothing. Makes sense, doesn't it?
mardon Posted March 23, 2010 #11 Share Posted March 23, 2010 We are also going on the May 30 Summit and we got the Connecticut discount but it is an INSIDE ROOM for $669 ea. Bargain prices. See you onboard Wine-O

Orcrone Posted March 24, 2010 #13 Share Posted March 24, 2010 OK. So is there an easy way to check what categoies might offer a senior discount for a particular sailing? I'll consider other categories.
