Seat saving on the Liberty of the Seas

Recommended Posts

Just got back from three weeks on the Liberty of the Seas. My observations about the new seat saving for suite guests was not impressive. Those seats remained unused with one of the staff standing by them during the entire ice show. Guests were turned away at the door or had to stand up during the entire show. We tried to take our granddaugter during the last week and there were no seats to be had. I mentioned my concern to a few of the staff and they said that it's a problem every week and head office gives and makes the rules. I don't have a problem with seats being set aside but I do think that once you get on the ship, you should have to make a choice on what night you will attend and then the rest of the guests can also have a chance. It just seems ridiculous to me that those seats are save for the entire number of ice shows for suite guests to attend every show. Give everyone a chance to see this show.

You will also notice the chairs at the pool are also reserved and they were empty most of the time during the three weeks. If you want to give these perks then monitor how they're being utilized.

Pedropuppy, as you and everyone are aware there are always big raves about the ice shows and now if you are not fortunate enough to get a seat then you are left standing to stare at empty chairs.

On most ships I've been on, they open up those seats right before the show starts ... it doesn't make sense to hold them throughout the whole show. In talking with some of the CD staff (who seem to get the job of gate keeper), this is a much-disliked job.

This is outrageous! You spent THREE WEEKS on the Liberty of the Seas?!

My cruise envy has reached new heights. :)

Haha seriously!

As far as the seats go... they need to be released at some point if they're not being used. It's just a waste otherwise.

I agree!! But jealousy will get me nowhere. What an awesome experience. I totally agree with the OP, I can see how that would be very frustrating.

I just returned from a week on the LOS and since I was in a suite I had front row seats at the ice show. Just before show time, the unused seats were opened up. I also used the roped off pool seats and yes, there were always some seats not used, but not most. Please don't flame me for being a suite holder; I paid dearly for it.;)

We had the same experience on EOS - we had gotten in line early and had front row seats at the ice show - as the show was about to start, the rest of the seats in the suite section filled up - couldn't tell you if they were with suite occupants or not, but they were definitely used. It was too cold for the pool most of the time, so I didn't even notice the pool seats.

I was on LOS in March 2009 and made the same observation, but sadly we were not suite guests. However, my huasband and I will be sailing on Freedom in January in a GS...so you better believe we are looking forward to taking FULL advantage. :D

No flaming. I think it's great to perks but once the show begins let the rest of the people have a chance. I spoke to guest relations the next morning and they said the seats cannot be released even after the show begins. This is ridiculous. Everyone paid to be on the ship and use all amenities and no one should be turned away if those seats are empty.

Not always. I`m sure a lot of disappointed people will post. There was crew standing at the rows the entire show. One of them asked me how would I like to be one of them and fight off people every week.

We have seen the reserved seats for the ice show but if they are not filled just before the show starts they have always been released for occupancy by commoners.

Alas, some of us must be more 'common' than others.

hmmm, I must say that when i go to the theater, get on a plane, go to a sports event or check in to a hotel I don't expect to be able to 'upgrade' my seat/room to something higher than what i paid for just because something better is available. I also don't expect them to offer me an expensive seat/room at a lower price just because the cheaper seats/rooms are sold out.

IMHO The suite guests pay (alot) for these perks. If staff opens up these seats a couple of minutes before the show starts that's cool (unless a suite guest turns up 30 seconds later) but i don't see the basis for complaining if they don't.

weecholee...we were on the same sailing. I can relate to your frustration, but seriously, those guests paid much more for their cabins that we did (deck 3), so I didn't let it bother me. If you book and pay that much more, than you deserve some perks, right?? I'm sure it is difficult for the cruise line to find ways to make the extra $$ worth it to customers. If you want, next time book the suite, and you can take advantage of it all!

I agree with your thoughts. Last year on the FOS we were in a suite. All the reserved seats were taken at the ice show, so we just sat in the back...no big deal. The staff had opened them up to everyone. At the pool, we did use the reserved chairs and during our cruise most of them were occupied. If these are the posted perks and I pay for that category, I will take advantage of it.

That's a shame about the tickets. My family and I were on Liberty the first year and tickets were quite nice. Everyone I had talked to attended the show on one of the nights they offered it.

As for the reserved seating, I agree with an earlier poster that you should get something for those extra dollars. I know you receive a larger room, but I have a hard time justifiying the cost from a balcony to a suite simply for larger space. We never spend much time in our room and if we do, we're always on the balcony. Now guranateeing me a pool chair and front row seats to the ice show does give me pause to reconsider....

Wow, I thought you were speaking of the theatre. We were seated and waiting for a show to start last August in the main theatre. All of a sudden, something big started in the main middle section and people were running.

Apparently a family was 'SAVING' seats for the rest of their family. :( There are notes everywhere about this not being allowed on this ship (which makes perfect sense to me). Anyhow, a large feud broke out due to a family coming in to sit in the empty seats when the other family stated they were 'saved'. I guess the 2nd family wouldn't take that answer so they attempted to sit down. It was a big hullaballoo! It was quite a waste of time for all involved. (these people that just can't follow the rules..geez) Just so you know; the original family sitting there, some of them were escorted out of the theatre as best we could see.

Ok..back to our original topic...sorry gang.:p

I guess we will just have to get there early for this show.:D

wgraves....no more advance tickets (at least not on Liberty....I can't say for certain about other ships)

We were on the Freedom in February and they still had advanced tickets, they also opened up the reserved seats right before the show started.

I just got off Liberty (3/21-3/28). They had advanced tickets to the ice shows. One day we all went to the promenade and stood in a super long line (that moved quickily) to pick which show we wanted to go to that week. I think we went to the first show of the week.

We actually sat in the suite seats (weren't suite guests). We got there only maybe 10 minutes (maybe less?) before showtime. I didn't know why they were roped off but the girl let us sit there. She then came back a couple minutes later and said something like "they are coming" to the family that was in the first row (we sat in the second) and that family was made to move....somewhere? I don't know if they could find seats together at that point. But my DH and I were allowed to stay in our second row seats while the suite family sat in the first row.

They did keep the ropes up the rest of the time, and the other seats next to us and next to the suite family remained empty.
