hott_michelle2001 Posted March 30, 2010 #1 Share Posted March 30, 2010 I am flying from houston to seattle in may to get on carnival spirit heading for alaska. (wooo hoo) and was wondering hwo you get your wine on the airlines? DO you have to check it?
omeinv Posted March 30, 2010 #2 Share Posted March 30, 2010 Yes. Unless your wine bottle is less than 4 ounces. Harris Denver, CO
FoolishMe Posted March 30, 2010 #3 Share Posted March 30, 2010 Yup - you have to check it... I've save some inserts from wine I've gotten through the mail (styrofoam), place the wine and use a bungy cord to hold the two pieces together. Packed in the middle of a bag - very safe and if it has to be inspected, they can restore it the way it was (tried duct tape the first time - no problems, but the inspectors did break the tape to look inside). I've also mailed myself wine to be delivered to my hotel (night before the cruise). Good luck
aggieastrosfan Posted March 30, 2010 #4 Share Posted March 30, 2010 I wrap each bottle of wine in bubble wrap, and then put 2 bottles inside a 2-gallon ziploc bag. That then gets placed right in the middle of all our clothing. So far, so good! :o
Rare crewsweeper Posted March 30, 2010 #5 Share Posted March 30, 2010 Seattle has lots of wine stores and liquor stores. Just stop by one after you arrive. Why load down your luggage with the extra weight?
Fourseventeen Posted March 30, 2010 #6 Share Posted March 30, 2010 personally I wrap mine in bubble wrap and place it in a new kitchen sized garbage bag and tape it up (incase by some slim chance it leaks) I have never had a problem doing this. BUT I guess if your wine bottle is like 3 or 4 oz I guess you could carry it on :D
texsailor Posted March 30, 2010 #7 Share Posted March 30, 2010 Remember that Carnival's new policy only allows you to bring one bottle per person, and that has to be in your carry-on. So you have to take it out of your checked luggage before you leave the luggage with the porters and carry it on in your carry-on stuff. This has recently changed, but that is the way it was in February in San Diego.
Maxie Girl Posted March 30, 2010 #8 Share Posted March 30, 2010 I was wondering does Carnival xray your bags before they put them on the ship?? Sorry if this is a stupid question but it's our first cruise. Thanks
crzndeb Posted March 30, 2010 #9 Share Posted March 30, 2010 Yes, why fly with your wine from Houston? There is a great wine store right at Pike Place Market. Are you arriving the day of your cruise or before?
bcs819 Posted March 30, 2010 #10 Share Posted March 30, 2010 ditto the other folks. We buy stuff in the port town either before we drop off the rental car, or we tip the cab driver to stop while we run inside.
Raven Days Posted March 30, 2010 #11 Share Posted March 30, 2010 I was going to bring some German wine (from Germany - that I brought home) but decided against it. I wouldnt want to take the change that it would break in my luggage so I will just to the Publix across the street from my hotel and buy some that I will carry on when we get to Miami. legalwife Posted March 30, 2010 #12 Share Posted March 30, 2010 Was on a real roll with wine/liquor in checked suitcases on aircraft. No problems for many trips. On one trip, a bottle of vodka kind of shattered in our suitcase. Someone told us it may have been a defect in the bottle. Luckily, it was on the return home and was NOT red wine! In Zip-loc bag so okay, but could have been very bad. I always bubble wrap and do the two gallon bags as mentioned above. I now double bag. Works very well and if you have a problem, you will be glad you had them in the bags.

salty dingo Posted March 30, 2010 #16 Share Posted March 30, 2010 Watch the weight of that suitcase! The airlines charge hefty fees if it goes over 50 lbs!
