hdcruizer Posted April 6, 2010 #1 Share Posted April 6, 2010 Do they take dollars at the Wal-Mart in PV? If so, are items priced in pesos and dollars. Also, do they give change in US dollars if you pay in US? Thanks, first time to MR
Ine Posted April 6, 2010 #2 Share Posted April 6, 2010 Prices are in Pesos (remember you are in Mexico...) but they accept US$. Change will again be in Pesos. To avoid this you can use your creditcard.
pcur Posted April 7, 2010 #3 Share Posted April 7, 2010 As you go in the front door, go to your left to the Customer Service counter. On the wall there is the current exchange to US $$, so you can mentally do the math as you shop. I agree: use a credit card for the purchase if you want to avoid getting pesos. madera cruiser Posted April 7, 2010 #4 Share Posted April 7, 2010 Pay in dollars, get change in pesos, burn the pesos in Mazatlan, or Cabo. Really a cool store. Being from Cen- Cal, where a lot of broccoli is grown, was surprised that it's about double the price we pay at home.

Northshorecruisers Posted April 9, 2010 #10 Share Posted April 9, 2010 Why would you want to go to Walmart in PV? Walmart is located to the left and across the street of where you get off the ship. Can't miss it. My next cruise to the MR, I'm on the opposite side of the ship so I don't have to look at it from my balcony.
kenish Posted April 9, 2010 #11 Share Posted April 9, 2010 Google Maps is your friend :) I use it all the time to "explore" places I will visit. Anyway, the answer to your question: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=wal+mart&sll=20.655113,-105.239067&sspn=0.014537,0.013089&ie=UTF8&hq=wal+mart&hnear=&ll=20.655354,-105.239067&spn=0.014035,0.013089&t=h&z=16&iwloc=A Cruise ships on the left, WalMart on the right. SamInWa Posted April 9, 2010 #12 Share Posted April 9, 2010 Don't forget that most credit card companies charge a fee for the currency conversion. It still might be the cheapest way to spend, but you might want to check ahead with your company to find out what the fee is.
Craving A Cruise Posted April 9, 2010 #13 Share Posted April 9, 2010 Where is the Wallmart in PV? Across the street from the cruise ship pier. About a 5-10 minute walk. :D Be careful crossing the busy street!

Rare Hlitner Posted April 9, 2010 #17 Share Posted April 9, 2010 Walmart will take dollars (they have a sign posted by the office with their current exchange rate) and they actually give a pretty decent rate of exchange (not as good as using an ATM or changing money at a bank). As to alcohol, the reality is that alcohol in Mexico costs more than buying the same booze at home...with the exception of products made in Mexico. We live in PV for 2 months a year and cringe whenever we must buy good Vodka or other foreign booze. Mexican products are sold at great prices, so if you want to buy Tequilia or some of the good Tequilia Liquors you will save money. Hank
jjb415 Posted April 10, 2010 #18 Share Posted April 10, 2010 Exotic is right, but I buy wine to take back to the ship and DW buys Retin A. 3 strenghts of Retin A are available. :)
afcj1 Posted April 10, 2010 #19 Share Posted April 10, 2010 so alcohol prices are good to great. You bet...maybe even better at the Sams club next door:) I don't belong there anymore, but they might give passes to cruise ship passengers. Also, there's always cool things to look at when your in another country.

afcj1 Posted April 10, 2010 #22 Share Posted April 10, 2010 Is it ok to take wine back on the ship? Yes, but if they catch it, they'll check it in for you until the last night. It's hit or miss and if there's a line, some will walk around it and not stop.
kenish Posted April 11, 2010 #23 Share Posted April 11, 2010 Odhrty- It depends on your cruiseline. Carnival for example will hold and return it to you on the last night of the cruise. HAL allows you to bring wine and beer on board. Policies vary, check their website.
