Wal-mart in PV

You know when people ask where's the best bar nobody seems to think they are crazy but when people ask where is the Walmart they get shot down. I don't plan to spend all of my time in Walmart but since it's close and if we are finished seeing the things we have planned to see we probably will go to the Walmart to see what it's like. We might go to a bar also. I'd really like to experience as many things as possible while we are there. Thanks to the people that answered my question. I got some really good information. :)

There's a pretty nice mall next door to the Walmart too. Good for picking up a forgotten article of clothing or 2.

 

They had a food court too if you are craving a Mickey D's burger or other US fast food.

I may stop there to pick up some vanilla. I am out and I love the flavor of the Mexican vanilla. I am confident of the quality of the vanilla and Rx there. I may see if they have my (expensive) BP medicine. I wonder if I can claim it on my Flex plan?;)

I also trust the Mexican RX. I have used the antibiotics many times at home cuz it is so hard to get them in the US. You have to see the Dr even if you know what is wrong, miss work, wait for RX to get filled and pay an arm & leg for the RX so that little bottle of antibiotics I got from Mexico has probably saved me over $100 out of pocket. Plus my brother had a really bad sinus infection and he was having trouble with his schedule getting to see the Dr so I gave him some of my antiobiotics from mexico and he was thrilled. He told me to pick him up some when we are there next month.:)

Check with your bank about using your bank cards outside of the US. Chase was going to charge foreign currency exchange fees with my card plus an out-of-country ATM fee if I used a cash machine. I checked with my Credit Union and after activating my debit card for use outside the US I found that they charged no additional fees. It worked great at WalMart. I bought a lot of souvenir T-shirts here and they didn't shrink after the first wash like the ones off the street do. We also bought a lot of Mexican candy for gifts back home. Remember to tip your bagger at the check-out. They receive no wages and work for tips only. If you have too much to carry comfortably back to the ship or you're running out of time and want to grab a taxi back, know that even though it just a few blocks, the drivers are charged $3 US just to enter the cruise terminal area. Expect to pay at least $5 for the ride (per car not per person). Have fun. I wish I was back there now.:rolleyes:

That is what we looked for last November and did not find any. You would think they would handle the wine from near Ensenada.

You can walk across the VERY busy road, but I wouldn't attempt it! Just got back from there on The NCL Star. Can pay anyway you want - it's Wally World

 

We spend 2 months a year in PV and often cross the road (yes, just like the chicken). There is a traffic light at the intersection that goes from the port over towards Walmart and Sams...not to mention the shopping mall, etc. We are constantly amazed that cruise ship passengers cruise down to Mexico to waste their time in Walmart. Go figure. :)

Different strokes;) I LOVE walking through WalMart to check out the different products, whenever I'm in another country. Their great prices on souvenirs & liquor make it worthwhile to many.

I always go to the Walmart in Hawaii. They have exactly the same souvenirs that you can by in the other shops for about half the price. I would think that it would be similar in Mexico. It's worth checking it out.

do you buy and does anyone know how much it is in Mexico, also, are the

antibiotics on the shelves or do you have to ask a pharmacist for them?

Stopped in last week on our way back from Los Veranos. I felt it was a waste to go there for souveniers as the vendors in Mazatlan and Cabo had better deals. Plus I had left my credit card on the ship and didn't want pesos back given that was our last port. The mall was nice but pricey but they had a STARBUCKS and I had wished that I had brought my laptop for the internet

Don't know about Retinol A but we bought antibiotics last week when we were in Cabo. You do have to ask for them, they are in the shelves behind the main counter.

I would not call a trip to Walmart a waste of time. You get some exercise and you can pick up some sodas and water, at a reasonable price. Beats the ship prices anyday.

I love that the Wal-mart is so close to the pier. I think it sounds like a great deal and if I have time. I would love to walk through thier Walmart and check everything out. If they have good deals on snacks, drinks and Souviners then thats awesome. Besides its fun to go to grocery stores in differnt countries :).

Whenever I am in PV I always buy the Reacel-A .05 anywhere from 30 pesos(Bucerias) to 99 pesos for 100 ml. LOVE this over the Retinol A as it has more soothing emmollients in it's base.

I usually use it once a day for two weekns (use at night as you don't want to be in the harsh sunlight with it on) and then stop for a few days, then start over again. My face has never looked so good :)

 

As of April 1st you can no longer buy antibiotics over the counter in PV.

We're just back. Went to the Walmart in PV and found it a waste. I did get vanilla for gifts there. I wasn't after drugs, etc. and found the other selections lacking.

Why not go to Wal-Mart? We went specifically for Retin-A. Retin-A there only costs us $13 per tube with the conversion rate. I bought 2 for DD, wish I had purchased more now. It's a good idea to take your empty box from your previous prescription so you know what strength to buy (they have 3 different strengths). It's $40/tube in the U.S. plus I have to schedule an appt with DD's dermatologist and pay a co-pay...so why go to Wal-Mart? I just gave 2 VERY good reasons. Plus DD was able to buy a really cool watch as a souvenir that I have been unable to find in the States.

 

Travel tip - cab fare to downtown or Los Veranos is cheaper from the Wal-Mart and taxis are always lined up outside. This saved us $4 over the price quoted at the docks.

I spend a few months every winter in PV and like to go to Wal Mart to see some different items. You can find different bathing suits and cover ups that you won't find at home. It's always interesting to look at the different food varieties too in different countries. I do like food and enjoy going to grocery stores in different countries. There are some bargains to be found as well.

 

Next door to Wal Mart there is an upscale shopping centre and one large department store with nice items and prices to match.

Don't forget that most credit card companies charge a fee for the currency conversion.

 

It still might be the cheapest way to spend, but you might want to check ahead with your company to find out what the fee is.

I just notified my credicard co that I will be traveling. I was told there's a 3% foriegn exchange rate. I have citicard. DD called and he wasnt told about the fee so not sure if its because he has a citi thank you prefered card and mine is a diamond prefered

 

 

 

Gees now I dont know if i should go to ww first shop then drop everything off at the ship or walk the malecon first. We have a lot of souvinors to buy

I know for dh, dd13 and I plan on buying some mexican snacks, dd13 will find stuff i'm sure. Someone mentioned bathing suits and cover ups do they have those in winter months? What about shorts for us bigger women. Going in a few days

WalMart's prices are better, but have a smaller selection. There were lots of shot glasses, key chains, tacky gifts and vanilla. We got a liter of Vanilla for $7.50 US.

 

If you have specific items you are looking for, then get them in a larger souvenir shop. If you don't have anything particular to buy, but just want to buy something small, then WalMart is good.

 

We also get pastries and mole there.

 

Sorry, I don't remember seeing bathing suits or cover ups.

Robin's shop alone are a good reason to come to PV .....:D Her suits and cover ups make anyone look great and she carries all sizes and specializes in bigger sizes.
