BalconyBreeze Posted April 10, 2010 #1 Share Posted April 10, 2010 Just curious if anyone knows what this means? We were awoken (granted we went to sleep early b/c we have two little boys (4 &2) at around midnight.....An announcement came over the PA - CODE ALPHA by some bar???? Suddenly it sounded like the engine shut off - Talk about scary - Suddenly a dream vacation starts to make you wonder, what could be going wrong? I went out and walked around and everyone seemed to be carrying on, business as usual. I figure it must have been quite important to use the PA at midnight. Any ideas??? PeleNipsy Posted April 10, 2010 #2 Share Posted April 10, 2010 I don't know what it means on a cuise ship, but at Walt Disney World, it's code for an ambulance/parametics. Edit in: It does look like "alpha" means medical emergency on NCL as well. (http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=797896)
kg03or Posted April 10, 2010 #3 Share Posted April 10, 2010 I'm pretty sure code Alpha is a medical emergency....I hope whoever it was is ok! I can only assume if nothing seemed too out of sorts that it turned out ok, but not surprising that the engine may have turned off incase they had to be prepare to get to land for additional help. nhsbestrealtor Posted April 10, 2010 #9 Share Posted April 10, 2010 I was on a European cruise last fall and they did a code alpha and I asked one of the crew members what happened the next day. They said that a man had a heart attack and died, so it makes sense that it would be a medical emergency.

CaptData Posted April 10, 2010 #11 Share Posted April 10, 2010 The one you don't want to hear is code Bravo it means FIRE. The worst thing on any ship is this code. If you hear this then stay up and get ready (dressed) in case of evacauation.
