Exodus Posted June 1, 2010 #151 Share Posted June 1, 2010 I've been following these: http://1worldcruise.blogspot.com/ http://2010bb.blogspot.com/ http://johnandgailscruise.blogspot.com/ http://jill-ray.blogspot.com/ http://blog.bretthandy.com/ http://richarddetrich.wordpress.com/ I've also started my own, although we don't board until Dubai: http://philipgoesroundtheworldin80days.blogspot.com/ It's really interesting having different peoples view of things, especially getting a feel for the cruise before we join. I'm delighted to see that everyone is having a great time, and coping with the confined quarters on board. It's all in the attitude I think - and ozzies can cope with anything provided there's enough booze on tap!! Cheers Philip

Nice to have all the blogs listed in the one place, as I had been scrolling through this thread to locate the blogs each time to read them, until I finally saved them yesterday. If only, I'd waited! Yes, it is a privilege to be able to be a virtual passenger on a world cruise. You should be able to pick up a lot of handy tips for when you join them in Dubai. Exodus Posted June 2, 2010 #165 Share Posted June 2, 2010 Oh nice to know you're checking it out! But yes, not a lot to say yet so keeping it to the minimum! Amount of content during my 80 days will depend on how much it costs to get online once we're on board... Hopefully I'll be motivated to keep it current... and as I just suggested to Kerry on the rollcall board, we might even be able to have a meeting of people who are blogging :) Any excuse to meet new people!! All the best. Philip Ah Phillip that explains it. Kiwi Kruzer Posted June 2, 2010 #168 Share Posted June 2, 2010 Now thats interesting. Cruise ships usually dock at the Star Cruise terminal, but they appear to be at a commercial wharf. The terminal must have another big cruise ship there today.

Australian family Posted June 4, 2010 #173 Share Posted June 4, 2010 My DH and I were discussing this trip last night, and trying to think of the nightmare of planning shore excursions, currency exchange (I read on one blog that these people didn't take enough aussie dollars) and then the luggage. Also how you get used to living in such a confined cabin. My DH said he would go stir crazy for that length of time. It would be an excellent trip, but the logistics of it would be a nightmare. I really admire the people who have gone on this trip and planning to go on it.

bazzaw Posted June 4, 2010 #175 Share Posted June 4, 2010 My DH and I were discussing this trip last night, and trying to think of the nightmare of planning shore excursions, currency exchange (I read on one blog that these people didn't take enough Aussie dollars) and then the luggage. I really admire the people who have gone on this trip and planning to go on it. Re the money side of things. We are intending to load up our Credit Card before we leave with far more money than we intend to spend!! We wont be home for 3 and 1/2 months - so anything charged up to the CC will have to have money already in the account for it. Mostly this will be for Shore tours, onboard booze/restaurants and current automatic household expenses. We will at least know beforehand which shore tours we want to take and therefore know the cost. We will also carry more cash than we reckon we will need - most of that will be for tips. We are intending to forget that we are Aussies on our cruise(s) and do everything in UK Pounds Sterling (except that we will load up our CC with AUD) Other than that, it will be a bit like other longish hols that we have taken - got to make sure the bills are paid before we leave . This is a bit difficult sometimes - as we don't know the bill until we get it. So we basically have to overpay by a large amount every bill that is anticipated to arrive in our letterbox while we are away. Mostly when we travel we do it on a fairly strict budget - but this time there will be occasions when "penny pinching" will not be the order of the day :o It is far more important to arrive home very very happy - than to do things the difficult way by scrimping :p Scrimping will be kept for another day.
