Redbird54 Posted May 24, 2010 #1 Share Posted May 24, 2010 Last year when I sailed on NCL, we had the hardest time finding lounge chairs by the pool or tranquity area. Our fellow cruisers would through a towel over a chair and claim it for the entire day even when they went to lunch or did another activity. As I have never cruised on Carnival before I wondering if this is a problem on the Carnival Glory as well. Must I become a lounge chair hog to get some sun or is there sufficient chairs for all? johnjen Posted May 24, 2010 #2 Share Posted May 24, 2010 Not sure what cruise you're booked on w/Glory but I am assuming it's one of the trips to Canada or New England. Considering the destination we'll be on (Canada in July) I doubt the pool will be as popular as the Caribbean journeys and doubt chair hogging will be that big a deal as other cruises we've been on. We are booked on Glory 7/12 out of NYC.
MrPete Posted May 24, 2010 #3 Share Posted May 24, 2010 Only if you're scared to move a sunbathing book, towel, thongs or sunglasses. They don't bite! Need a chair? Remove the stuff and take the chair. It's yours!
Traveler353 Posted May 24, 2010 #4 Share Posted May 24, 2010 Chair hogs, I have never had a problem finding a chair.
johnjen Posted May 24, 2010 #5 Share Posted May 24, 2010 I believe it was the Explorer (RCL) when I approached a group of unmanned chairs, and it was a young girl, maybe 12, who told me that her family was busy eating and those chairs were all belonging to them. Nothing on them. Of course, we nabbed two of the chairs. When the family came back, I just told them the chairs were unmanned and you can't "reserve" deck chairs. There were a few evil stares, but sorry for their luck.
gogetter Posted May 24, 2010 #6 Share Posted May 24, 2010 All great and correct answers. After 14 cruises i have never had a problem getting a chair near the pool. Like previously mentioned, just take the chair or move the stuff. At one time i would grant them 30 minutes, if not there.....bye bye.....they want to argue about it...no problem, call security, the captain or whoever and let's discuss it.....no one ever took me up on that! Husky61 Posted May 24, 2010 #7 Share Posted May 24, 2010 We sailed the Glory in March, and yes, the chair hogs were out in full force. That being said, we will not sail on another ship that carries that many passengers. We sailed before that on the Coral Princess, and never had a chair hog problem:)
arush5268d Posted May 24, 2010 #8 Share Posted May 24, 2010 If you visit the burrito bar and leave a sewage smell in an area of 'saved' chairs, you will shortly have them all to yourself.
Grumpy100 Posted May 24, 2010 #9 Share Posted May 24, 2010 We have learned after 13 cruises that you have to do everything early. We get up early, go to the pool early and get our 2-3 hrs. of sun in early, then off for a nap, then lunch, then casino, another nap, dinner, show, time to go to bed. Everything early that way you won't have to wait.
BND Posted May 24, 2010 #10 Share Posted May 24, 2010 Or, you can do what we usually do. We'll walk through the area near the pools once and if we don't see what we like, we just walk up a deck and find a chair somewhere. I don't 'use the pool (most people don't) so why does it matter if I'm sitting to watch the hairy chest contest or standing at the rail where there's really a better view anyway? The waiters will find you wherever you sit and we can get some shade too.

I am not a right beside the pool person either - but if I go up on the 2nd deck above Lido and chairs are saved (for a long time) - I move it about 5 chairs down and when confronted just say the chair was empty but I say people were moving stuff all over the place and it ain't my problem. We just got off the Glory yesterday and didin't have any problems finding a lounge chair at all. Yes, there were some chair hogs, but there were plenty of chairs. I am surprised at NCL. When we cruised on the NCL Star, the pool attendant would gather towels and such that were on chairs for longer than 30 minutes. We have always wished Carnival would do the same thing. I guess NCL doesn't want to upset the rude people anymore.
fbcoach2164 Posted May 24, 2010 #13 Share Posted May 24, 2010 Tell you what, I am going on my first cruise in oct so i don't expect any chair hog problems. However if such a "situation" were to arise and I had to deal with a chair hog, I would politely tell such hog that if they are "saving" said chair(s) they have 10 minutes to get somebody's behind in it or it will be considered an open place. I am 6'3 235 lbs., I will have no problem discussing any questionable objections with said hog in private of course.( will wait for husband or male if hog is a female).:D i would also help ANY person who ran into the same situation if asked. No need to be a hog, be a jerk all you want, but don't be a hog. We are all there to relax, so let's all be thoughtful and do just that.

So your answer to the chair hogs is to intimidate them with your physical size?
Tbay-eh Posted May 25, 2010 #17 Share Posted May 25, 2010 So your answer to the chair hogs is to intimidate them with your physical size? I tend to agree with him - I am tired of being intimidated by chair hogs - give them some of their own medicine. Go fbcoach2164 I'll have your back or at least stand behind you when you defend me and others. No slinking off with tail between your legs when some one wants to reclaim chair after an hour. jojoacq Posted May 25, 2010 #19 Share Posted May 25, 2010 Got off Glory 2 weeks ago, May 16th, and had not one problem with finding chairs or lounges. There seem to be plenty. Our group actually found a nice area up a level from pools that you could either sit in the shade or out in the sun. We loved it!
Tbay-eh Posted May 25, 2010 #20 Share Posted May 25, 2010 A very mature and adult approach to a minor incident.:rolleyes: Thank you for your very insightful observation - you must be proud of yourself being so perfect. I just get so tired of people saying ignore them, move on, don't spoil your vacation, they paid for their vacation yada yada yada. Well I for one am not going to take it anymore. I would probably not be as agressive as him but you can be sure I will remove articles and plant my butt. Afterall, they can ignore me, move on, don't spoil their vacation, yada yada. You and I will just have to agree to disagree - no point in getting into a pissing match. I surrender. I tend to like away from the pool on one of the upper decks but even these areas sometimes get saved.

Maybe they can try being a little more considerate and then they wouldn't have to worry about being intimidated by someone 6'3" and 235 lbs.
