People Mover in Venice

The People Mover is up and running to the Cruise ship port. We just returned yesterday from the Ruby Princess Greek ISles Cruise...which was fabulous by the way. When we boarded her on June 10, we were told by our hotel operator that it had just opened a few days before to the cruise ship terminal. You go to the Piazzale Roma. Walk to the back part of the Piazzale Roma. You will see a building with signs on it for the People Mover. You enter below and there is an English speaking attendant. You purchase your ticket which is 1 Euro each. You must have Euros to do this. You then take an escalator up to the platform to board. Once on board you get off at the first stop. You will see the ship and it is announced. There is no extra charge for your luggage. It runs continulously until 9pm at night. Once we were checked in on the ship, we took the People mover back into Venice. In the end, we turned in our ship transfers which all automatically charged to your shipboard account and used the People Mover instead. Please ask if you have any questions and I will try to answer.

Thanks for posting this. DH and I will be embarking in Venice next year and we were wondering if it is possible to walk from the train station to the People Mover station with our luggage. I understand that we will have to go over a bridge but we're both relatively young ;) and relatively physically fit :p so we don't think it will be a problem.

The new bridge is open from Piazzale Roma to the train station. Before it opened, you had to cross two bridges or take the water bus to get to the train station (but you would still need to cross one bridge.)

You can walk from the train station over the new bridge and directly into the Piazzale Roma. Then follow directions from my first post to get to the peoplemover. You will have to take your luggage over the bridge but shouldn't be a problem unless you have many, many suitcases.

Glad you enjoyed the cruisewhatcruiseisnext. We're doing the same cruise at the end of next month and very much looking forward to it. Also pleased that the People mover is running to the port now. Thanks for this information, we're sailing from Venice in July and was wondering how to get from our hotel to the port. Since we are staying near the Piazzale it will be ideal for us.

 

Is there plenty of room for luggage?

It is a large overheard train. The doors are wide and luggage can easily accomodate luggage. It is not difficult to get on or off. See photo.
