Hotels in Montreal

We have just booked the Oct. 9 cruise on the Maasdam and are now looking for a hotel. Does anyone have any suggestions for a place close to the dock? Any suggestions for what to see if we stay an extra day in Montreal?

We stayed in a great bed and breakfast on St Paul street which is about 3 or 4 blocks from the dock the Maasdam used in 2005. It's name is Les Passants du Sans Soucy. It is in a historic building but the interior is beautiful and suites include baths with jacuzzi tubs and very comfortable beds.

We stayed there for 3 nights after our cruise and really enjoyed the great breakfasts. You didn't have to look for lunch until late in the afternoon you were so full.

 

We stayed in room 102 which was the on what they call the first floor but was actually on the second floor so you would have to go up stairs.

 

We loved the place and would strongly recommend it.

We have stayed at the Sheraton down town which was about a block from the underground stores, etc.

Last October we stayed a the Marriott Springhill Suites in "Old Montreal". Great location, lots of excellent restaurants within 5 minutes of hotel and we walked to the port with luggage; approximately 10 minute walk

Plaza d'arms a botique hotel in the old city. Gigantic room and wonderful bath. We just walked everywhere. About $200 a night.

I would stay at either the Plaza (as above) or the Embassy Suites. See which you like better. close by to each other and old Montreal which is beautiful.

 

You won't have any problem filling a day in Montreal. Beautiful city and tremendous shopping. (just in case)

Montreal is a great city. We've had 4 of 5 land stays there and cruise every year with a turnaround day in Montreal. So much to do and see ..... and eat. Lots of excellent restaurants.

The Nelligan in Old Montreal has been recommended.

Le Petit Hotel is worth considering. Highly rated on TripAdvisor, too. Embassy Suites is another good choice.

Take a walk around the campus of McGill University, a green oasis in downtown Montreal. One of the first intercollegiate football games was played between McGill and Harvard in the late 1800's. Its location on tree-lined Sherbrooke Street will afford you some magnifecent Autumn colours in early October. For even more displays of colour, ascend Mont Royal in the center of Montreal. You don't have to break the bank to accomplish this task. Get a one day transit pass for full access to the Metro ( subway ) and buses. Website:

One of the stops I enjoy is Jean-Drapeau located on the island in the St. Lawrence River on the site of the previous Expo 67. The former USA pavillion designed by Buckminster Fuller is still there to behold. The former French pavillion is now the Montreal Casino ( great food ).

The advantage to visiting this island is the stunning view that you will have of the Montreal skyline and Mount Royal, and depending when you are there, you could even see the Maasdam sailing into her berth. Again, more fall colours to enjoy on the island. One further note: most of the restaurants in old Montreal will allow you to bring in your own wine.
