Hotel recommendation in Barcelona

I use a travel agent but still research on my own. I would advise going into tripadvisor dot com and search for hotels there. Depending upon the price you want to pay there are a good number of hotels available.

I would read the reviews and remember that a good place to be is near Las Ramblas and the Gothic Quarter, but most places will be near a hop on hop off bus that will take you anywhere. Look for vicinity and map them. Some hotels hear a lot of noise from Las Ramblas and some from the cathedral bells but not all hotels and not all rooms in those hotels.

Hope this helps.

I have spent alot of time today looking at hotels for a pre-cruise two night stay end of August.

It is either going to be:

Hotel Miramar

Barelona Universal

Hotel Fira Palace

Eorostars Grand Marina

Each has it's own appeal for various reasons, but you might look at them. So many decisions to make!

Welcome to CC

Search the boards here there are a few threads on these.

Hotel jazz gets lots of recommendations, I didn't stay there as it was full on our swing thru Barcelona. I used Hotel Olivia right at the top of Plaza Cataluña. It was an ultra modern and very nice hotel, no breakfast included, but tons of places to eat around it.

We are able to spend an extra day in Barcelona before we set sail for a 12 night cruise....would appreciate any recommendations that you may have

Thank you

Stayed 1 night pre-cruise at Rivoli Ramblas right on Las Ramblas - found discount rate with breakfast; and 2 nights post cruise at NH Duc de la Victoria in Bari Gottic area. Found great weekend special on line for NH that included room and full buffet breakfast at price significantly cheaper than room alone. Both hotels were fine.

We stayed at the Fira Palace for 4 days last year and LOVED IT!! If you choose it try for a deal with breakfast - it was great.

We spent 3 nights at the Hotel Granvia pre-cruise last Sept. Good location about a 5 min walk from P. Catalunya and the start of La Rombla. Business type hotel. Not fancy, but large rooms and baths and good AC. Excellent buffet breakfast.

Stayed at Jazz recently and loved it. Look over all the suggestions on this thread and all the others then go to Trip Advisor too. Jazz is right along the Metro and if you are a light sleeper the rumble may bother you (but it also stops running at some point for the evening) but hotels along the Rambla sometimes mean you hear outside noise. You only have one night precruise so it probably won't matter that much anyway so I'd try to stay in a hotel near/on the Rambla.

First time about 25 of us stayed at the Hotel Palacete, this time 59 of us are staying at the sister Hotel Continental right down the street on Las Ramblas (in Nov sailing on the Voyager T A) about 4 buildings from Plaza Cataluna. Both hotels have a 24 hour free buffet and drinks (tea, coffee, soft drinks, wine , and beer!).

A little off topic, but with that many people you might want to consider hiring a bus to take you to the port. We had 29 in our group and we hired a large bus to pick us up at the Jazz. All luggage was put on the bus by the driver, he drove us to the port, and the ships' people came to the bus and off loaded our luggage for us. It worked out very well and was a reasonable price.

Thanks to everyone for sharing. We are really looking forward to our two days pre-cruise, and want to pick the right hotel.

Mollyane, what did you like about the Fira Palace? The rooms look good, but I am worried about lack of outdoor pool, and the location being away from major attractions. Were there cafes and shops around? Correct me if I am wrong, but I think it may be a business travelers hotel. The accomodations look very nice, very good reviews and I know we would be comfortable there. Thanks for your insight.

Cruising Goddess, loved your day to day review and pictures. It is fun to read about your trip, and you both look so happy!

I usually stay at Le Meriden on Ramblas the rooms aresound proof so you don't hear noise from Ramblas but this time I want to try Hotel 1898 it has rooftop pool and tapas bar which I will love because I can use it after my long flight(Meriden doesn't have pool) on my post cruise stay I am going to stay at Hotel Arts by the beach with a pool and casino. I want to try these hotels 1898 is on Ramblas Arts isn't to far but on Sunday Ramblas is quiet so I don't mind not being on Ramblas, good luck enjoy

We stayed in Hotel Olivia just at the end of La Rambla next to a great Cafe called Farggi... The staff was great giving us places to go for dinner... Note: knowing dinner in Spain starts really really late they found us a great Restaurant, El Nou that served a US timed dinner we ate at 6pm... Anyway the Hotel was nice and a good price... if you want to view a short video of our visit check out Youtube short video... doesn't show our Hotel but has a short look at Barcelona...

The buffet is OK for drinks. But, don't depend on it for a meal. Everytime I went there, it seemed like there was only a little bit of cut up fruit (mostly kiwi and pineapple), toppings for a salad that wasn't there, some tortilla, and bread. It sure never looked like the buffet they have pictured on line!!!

The bus has been reserved AND filled,,,,this group has got it together!!!!!
