Where is it more fun to gamble, Vegas, AC, etc, or on a cruise ship???

I have learned to play roulette and craps on the cruise ship's, but I was wondering where is it the most fun.

Yes I know the most fun is the one where you are winning.

I have never been to Vegas but have always wanted to try it. I just keep hearing that the dealers are cold and the people don't talk. Is this true?

I always have a blast on a Carnival craps or roulette table. People are having fun, talking and the dealer are having fun.

Just askin.

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO F22 Smitty: When I was first learning how to play I enjoyed Las Vegas. Atlantic City provides better games although at higher better limits. Cruise ships could be fun, but, dealers at times don't know what they are doing. Case in point: on my last cruise a dealer gave me a payout. I had no bets on the table at that time. Same cruise another day: I was the shooter and hit a point number with many Come bets on it and my Place bet. They were going to forget to pay out my Place bet. I had to remind them.

When playing any game anyplace know your bets, and your payback if the number is hit.

Reno is even better to play at than Las Vegas and my wife really likes Lake Tahoe.

Another point I might make about Atlantic City right now is they are hurting so bad from the recession and competition from Pa. that they will bend over backwards to treat you nice... I enjoy a break with a walk on the boardwalk and people watching as well as using the beach...

Absolutely false. Average temperature of the dealers is 98.6 degrees farenheit and of course people talk here. Sheesh, where do you get your info? Warmness of the dealers is in direct proportion to how much they are being tipped. At most casinos the casino itself pays the dealers at or near minimum wage, all the rest of their pay comes from tips. With minimum wage comes minimum effort.

No--that's not always true! We've had some personable dealers, but we've had some downright surly ones, too...and they would have been tipped, had they been more pleasant! Gambling (for most!) is entertainment. If someone is making the evening uncomfortable because they (the dealers) obviously are NOT happy, then no tips (from me) will be forthcoming.

The dealers that are fun, and happy, therefore contributing to the "fun factor" of the table will get tipped, especially if we are winning a bit!

I have some of the best craps sessions on cruise ships in terms of atmosphere and fun factor. But on the other hand, I have been blessed with the worst. Dumb dealers, dumb players, and downright dumb everything. In summary, you could end up having the time of your life, or trapped in your worst nightmare.

At least in Vegas if the casino you are in sucks, you can easily walk out the door and go to another casino. No so on a ship. You are held hostage.

If you are a serious player(gambler) ship gambling is the worst. Dealers and the other players are generally not very proffesional. The "comps"

are a joke. You may not even get a free drink! Also the slot payout ratio is horrible

On the other hand if you are not a serious player, gambling on a ship is generally O.K. The table minimums are pretty low and new players are

generally tolerated better then at land casinos.

Of course the higher the table min/max bet ,the more serious the atmosphere

I think the most fun I seem to have is at Bill's in Vegas, don't know why but even when I'm losing I seem to have a good time. If you want to check it out you better hurry as Harrah's is thinking of turning it into a Boutique hotel and that will ruin it.

Try the El Cortez. What a dump! What a blast!

So I guess what everyone is saying, is that Vegas, AC, and other land based casino's are a better game and more serious, while the cruise ships are more for entertainment and novice's.

I do look at gambling as entertainment and I love craps, but I'm still learning. Maybe some day I'll get to Vegas. Thanks:cool:

I love Bill's in Vegas. Bill's and O'Sheas, fun , fun, fun and I usually win a little at both. Sorry to hear they may change it out to a Boutique Hotel. The atmosphere will definately change. I'm looking forward to my cruise on the Emerald Princess 9/19. My 1st stop is always to check out the casino. Can't wait...(this is my 1st time on the board, looking forward to more discussion)

Vegas is the best!

I've been playing at Sam's Town the past few years. Had some really good times in the casino, and the comps are very fair. Also played at the 'Shoe downtown alot before Harrah's took over. I guess that's the best part about Vegas, more places to play then anywhere.

No one's mentioned the casinos in Connecticut. Been liking Foxoods. The tables are small, crews friendly and they have a really good ambience.

If you want to learn how to play craps the right way, may I suggest John Patrick. Whatever you do, DO NOT read books by Scoblete. He's a BS artist. His 5-count system is a lot of Hooey. His Golden Touch school is a sham/scam. You can learn to play to win/ minimize losses using Patrick as a guide. When you feel like you want to take it to the next level look into Dice Influencing. :D

Hahahaha. You gotta love this post. Watch out for an old timer here that goes by Evergladesgator. He swears by him. Frank is his hero. He emails him now and then. Signs "Evergladesgator" in his emails which I thought was hysterical. But he doesn't get it. But that is okay. He is old and doesn't know any better. :p

I was actually wondering if someone would EVER bring this up. Now that someone else brought this up, it makes it more credible. Great post Frocky! I hope I can call you that. :D

It's far more fun in Monte Carlo and in Macau.

Never been to Macau but the casino in Monte Carlo is as serious as a heart attack. Beautiful but very somber.

Lots of Eurotrash (but I like Eurotrash).

I like the landbased casinos because there are more tables/games to choose from and better perks. However, I generally find the dealers to be are nicer and more diverse on cruise ships and I feel the overall experience is better. Granted, you do need to deal with other idiots in the casino that hit when the dealer is showing 16 or people that celebrate like they won a car when they win $5...but this occassionally happens at land based casino I tend to like the cruise ship casinos better.

I saw those posts between you two and don't think he got the humor of what you were saying and took it to personel. I see he has had some posts removed and hasn't been around for a few days, I wonder why:rolleyes:

What can I say or do. I tried to reason with him. I explained it, another poster explained it as well to him. He still didn't get it. THEN, I even made a good will attempt to take it offline here and explain it/have it out or whatever by providing my email addy, but he just came back and continued his rage. And rage that really wasn't necessary as nobody was out to get him from the very beginning. All self induced by him.

But after so many attempts of reason, one simply has to give up and move on.

I mostly have experience at craps (and some table games) in land-based casinos (Vegas, Reno and some Indian casinos in NM) and a few times on cruise ships.

In general I almost always have found the crew and fellow players to be friendly and to contribute to having a good time.

I think on cruise ships there is a higher probability of the dealers being inexperienced. I have found this to get pretty tedious after a while. It is not fun to have to watch your bets like a hawk to be sure you will get paid properly, and it can really slow the game down if there are more than a few players with non-trivial bets going on. But it wasn't annoying enough to make me not want to play, just not as fun as it would have been with more experienced dealers.

I agree the comps are less on a cruise ship, but as a low-roller who doesn't drink, that's pretty much a non-issue for me.

I love Reno. Been going there for almost 20 years, most years twice a year. Haven't been in a couple of years, though, as I've been busy cruising :D, but I'm going to Reno again in September.

I've been to Las Vegas twice. Too big, too hot and absolutely no luck on the slots. I have better luck on the cruise ships than I did in Vegas.

Hi Everybody,

I haven't had the opprtunity to play on a ship yet, but that will change in Sept. In Vegas I enjoy playing at the Silverton (Bass Pro Shop) and the Fiesta (N. Las Vegas). They are both off the strip therefore giving better odds and both have the local casino feel. At the Fiesta the dealers all introduced themselves and asked how I would like to be addressed. Great times and I won some money.

Nancy, I have to agree with everything you said don't like to HAVE to watch every pay out and I'm small time so comps don't matter. I just enjoy playing craps whenever I get the opportunity!

Cheers,

Vic

Having done a bunch of gambling/day cruises , I have always been amazed how many times the dealers have actually

managed to bend the cards at the 21 tables. So if you think the dealers are bad on cruise ships - there is worse

I guess everyone has to learn somewhere.

One thing I didn't see posted is that on a cruise ship you see the same people every day whereas in a land based casino you tend to see different people every day. If the people playing on a cruise are fun people then it is very enjoyable. On the other hand sometimes all you have is annoying AH's at the craps table on cruise ships. On 3 out of my last 4 cruises there have been great people and it's been fun.

Hard to compare "fun", but as in most answers, it depends.

Speaking mostly of craps:

Cruises get lots of newbies, both dealers and players. At times, that can be fun. You can feel good about maybe helping your fellow pax learn the subtle details abit better, or get a good look from the boss if you graciously point out a pay error (for or against) yourself. Other times, they can can just irk you to no end. They get drunk, slow up the game, get the dealers and bosses on edge, they fight with their wife about money and when it is time to go see the show, etc. Your eyes start to hurt, cause you roll them back in your head so many times.

I have not been to AC, but have visited Vegas, Reno, various boats and Indian casinos. The main advantage they have - is tables. Meet a dealer or player (or pair of dice) you don't get along with? Go to another one. Not an option on cruise.

Admittedly I have not been 'a lot', but I would stereotype Vegas dealers to be more jaded and cold. For me, Autralian based dealers on cruises stand out as being the "funnest" or most personable to play with. Cute Romanians second.
