CanWeGoYet? Posted August 22, 2010 #26 Share Posted August 22, 2010 Thanks. I noticed a lot of chilled fruit soups on the sample menu. Has anyone tried them? Opinions? I'll be on the ship on Friday so I guess I'll just give them a try then. I've tried most of them and never had one I didn't like.
falkcor Posted August 22, 2010 #27 Share Posted August 22, 2010 just as a point of reference... i think most people posting have wanted to 'try something new' - which i'm always up to. and i've tried indian cuisine many, many times. i'm somewhat used to it. but i still don't like it. (as much as other things) :) and actually, what carnival offers under that auspice, is better (to us palettes) than 'true indian' food, in my opinion (i just don't like it). as for ordering 'true indian' food 24 hrs in advance as also offered here, i don't know, i've never done that... just a point for caution - you might not like it! (or in the end, find it as good as the alternatives)... i would just possibly recommend, ordering it + an entree you're happy with (such as the ribs), and treat it as a 'tasting menu' if it's your first experience... :D
kingoftheicedragons Posted August 22, 2010 #28 Share Posted August 22, 2010 We'll be flying out in a matter of hours for our next cruise...don't know if I can get an answer before than or not... My wife loves Indian food, and she saw on here that you can "pre-order" it on some website but our computer wouldn't let us get to that website. So, if I understand correctly from this thread that you can order it on the ship just by going to the maitre'd...does it matter what ship you're on (we'll be on the Spirit)? I think she would really love this option--of course, without knowing what the alternatives would be, I don't know if she'd truly want to do this. marshhawk Posted August 22, 2010 #29 Share Posted August 22, 2010 The best thread to find out about food is to check out the Food Cruisies, ah nothing better than looking at Food Porn LOL. I also look at the Carnival web site, under most asked qustions(some I wouldn't ask) but they list a sample menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner in the MDR. Since it appears to be pretty much the same for all ships, it really matched what we had on the Sensation and the Legend, so I guess it will hold true for the Fascination as well. (for us) and what ever ship you are sailing. Sail happy, eat happy:)
Mary Ellen1 Posted August 22, 2010 #30 Share Posted August 22, 2010 Thanks. I noticed a lot of chilled fruit soups on the sample menu. Has anyone tried them? Opinions? I'll be on the ship on Friday so I guess I'll just give them a try then. I tried every one, but found them underwhelming. Heavy on the cream, light on the flavor. With all that cream, they probably have a million calories each - not the light summer soup you might think of...
PAcruiser25 Posted August 22, 2010 #31 Share Posted August 22, 2010 I think the MDR Indian Veg dinner on the 1st night is terrific - have had it maybe twice? But I think my plate looked different than the photo posted on here.
BigRed93 Posted August 22, 2010 #32 Share Posted August 22, 2010 I think the MDR Indian Veg dinner on the 1st night is terrific - have had it maybe twice? But I think my plate looked different than the photo posted on here. When I have had it, it didn't look like that either. It was a huge plate full of food! The bread also wasn't really nan or tandoori bread, but more like a smaller size pita with chopped grilled onions on top. So maybe it varies by ship. It is really good, imo. travelinggrandma Posted August 22, 2010 #33 Share Posted August 22, 2010 The last time I had it there was so much on the plate one of my tablemates made the comment, "Are you really going to eat all that food?". My plate looked much, much fuller than the one you are sharing and I was also on the Paradise. I guess it depends on the night and the chef as to what it looks like, but it is delicious. Another surprisingly good tasting meal is the vegetarian pot pie. I loved the flavors and I'm not a vegetarian. It tasted like pumpkin pie, but was filling. Mary Ellen1 Posted August 22, 2010 #34 Share Posted August 22, 2010 Mine was a HUGE plate of food, too. I couldn't finish it all!!! And so gooooood. :)
SMSACE6 Posted August 22, 2010 #35 Share Posted August 22, 2010 My Mom ordered this dish on the Liberty last October and liked it. We both like Indian food, and I was tempted but last minute I opted out in favour of my traditional first night favorite dinner of sweet and sour shrimp. I still love the sweet and sour shrimp, but I think next time I will have to give this Indian vegetarian dinner a try. And if you could handle the ribs along with this dish, than go for it but, there is no way I could even finish the ribs, ( as good as they were ) the evening that I ordered them. I even cut a piece off for my mom to try. But that is just me.:)
tiger belle Posted August 23, 2010 #36 Share Posted August 23, 2010 I had the vegetarian lasagna on my last cruise, and it was one of the more tasty meals I had on-board...I would be curious to try the Indian vegetarian plate...does anyone else have pictures of it? Koval Posted August 23, 2010 #37 Share Posted August 23, 2010 Has anyone tried the Indian Vegetarian dish offered in the dining room on the first night (I believe)? If so, looking for your thoughts on how it was. I hate to give up the ribs that are offered that night, but I'm hoping to try new things this time....and the Indian dish would definitely be new for me! Thanks! I like to try new things too, on the cruises. You can order both, or ask if you can get it for your appetizer.
happy cruzer Posted August 23, 2010 #38 Share Posted August 23, 2010 Usually all the menus for the cruise are at the guest services desk in a folder. They keep it there just for what you want to decide what night to go to specialty restaurant, or buffet or whatever. We use it to help us decide on wine choices, we bring on a bottle or two and like to decide which night to carry it in. Cheers.
mom2girlsVT Posted August 23, 2010 Author #39 Share Posted August 23, 2010 So, looking at the picture posted of the Indian dinner, do you put the various helpings on the bread, sort of as toppings? I know I can eat it any way I want to, but I'd like to do it properly to get the right flavor out of it. Like I mentioned earlier, when I tried this once at the buffet, I had no idea how to put the foods together or what I was eating.

Rosefloater Posted August 24, 2010 #42 Share Posted August 24, 2010 So, looking at the picture posted of the Indian dinner, do you put the various helpings on the bread, sort of as toppings? Like I mentioned earlier, when I tried this once at the buffet, I had no idea how to put the foods together or what I was eating. In the past I have also gotten more food on the plate than I posted. I don't think there is a right or wrong way to eat this dinner. Sometimes, if one of the items is very spicy I mix it with the rice. The paneer (cheese item) is also good over the rice. I usually don't mix the other things together. I'm sure they would be great as toppings on the bread. FYI my granddaughter has eaten Indian food at her friend's house and said the food on the ship was comparable. So, enjoy.
