Three days in Bermuda....

We were there for 1 & 1/2 days last November coming into NY on a transatlantic crossing on the Dream. I loved Bermuda, I wish we could have had 3 days. You can use public transportation very cheap. The bus system goes from one end of the Island to the other.

We took the bus from where we were docked to the other end of the island, stopping along the way at the places we wanted to see. We didn't have time to go to the beach but I wish we had. The beaches are some of the most beautiful I have ever seen. We have been all over the caribbean, and I love it. I have not seen any beaches in the caribbean I would compare to the beaches I saw in Bermuda. I think you will love your time there. The island is also very safe. We are planning to go back on a cruise, or I would love a land vacation there.

Bermuda is great....transportation around the island is very inexpensive with a unlimited bus pass that you can purchase on ship or once off ship. The shuttles/buses run continuously making it very easy to get around. So getting around the island is cheap and easy. Bermuda is very safe and clean. The beaches are beautiful and a great place to spend the day. There are opportunities for snorkeling, scuba, dolphin interactions, etc...not to mention the shopping!!!! I have not cruised there but spent my honeymoon there 8 years ago. I am sure that the excursion site has many options but also very easy to book once on the island.

I totally agree with the others about using the bus pass - it's a great value and takes you all around the island. We also checked out a travel book about Bermuda from our library and used it to take a self-guided walking tour around the main part of town. One piece of advice I'll give you - if you plan on doing any water/beach activities - is to try and go during the summer months. We went in early May and the water was really cold on our snorkeling trip, but we didn't have the flexibility to go any other time of year. I'd recommend July or August if you can go then.

We loved Bermuda and will definitely be back some day!

Use the public transportation system and just explore! You will be docked on one end of the Island, but you must go to St. David's, which is on the other end of the island and walk around down there! If you have a little money, go to some of the Forts. Fort St. Catherine housed the Crown Jewels for awhile during WWII and I think still has replicas. There are also beaches on that side of the island where you can find lots of sea glass (free souvenir!!) to take home with you.

We were in Bermuda for 1 1/2 days last year and we need to go back because we didn't have time to do everything we wanted. We rented a couple of scooters and head to the beaches. We would stop at one then continue on if it wasn't to our liking. We'd stop wherever along the way to take pictures or just hang out. Went to the Crystal Caves one day (very cool). We never even made it to St. George. We want to check out the forts, walk the railway trail a bit, etc.

You should have plenty to do...

Is this too long?? What is there to do that doesn't involve spending "an arm and a leg"? Tell me about your experiences in Bermuda as I know very little about it. Thanks!!

No 3 days is not too long. Went there on a cruise last year - we arrived on Tuesday at 1pm and stayed until Friday at 11am.

We got three day "bus" passes which also allow you to take the high speed ferries. Not sure if you are going to Dockyard (King's Wharf) or St. George's. We went to St. Georges. There is Fort St. Catherine (which has a lovely beach beside it), Tobacco bay (a crowded touristy but beautiful spot to swim) in St. George's and lots of little shops. Just down the road (10 minutes or less on the bus) are the Crystal Caves. You have to go there - stalagmites and stalactites galore!! Very beautiful.

On the other side of Bermuda are pink sand beaches. I believe they are the only island anywhere that has pink sand. The beaches are unbelievalbe and I've seen alot of beautiful beaches in my travels. Again, very easy to get there, just take the bus. If you are going far, you'll have to change buses in Hamilton which will give you the opportunity to see a bit of that city. We really enjoyed taking the buses and ferries as you will see really beautiful scenery along the way.

In King's Wharf there are a number of things to do as well. We went to Snorkel park - wouldn't recommend it - it's dumpy and touristy. But there is a little train that takes you around the town that was really fun. There are great restaurants along the water as well.

Have fun!

We went and stayed 1 1/2 days and also used the public transportation to go from one end to the other. I guess I am the only one posting who did not like Bermuda and will never go back. The parts that were not built up were ok. Just give me a run down poor island like the Mexican ports and I am happy, I liked Jamica better for the colorful locals.

Not that I am trying to take the post over but I have a question for staying in port overnight and/or for three or so days?

Not saying I would do this, but does the cruiseline offer all excursions for the days that you are there? I would love to do a scuba excursion and then do an Island tour? I am curious about doing this in Bermuda. I dive, and my wife is not a water person. So is it possible to do a diving on noe day, then go on an island tour the next? I would like to do this through the ship. Having never done an overnight or for three days, I would appreciate an answer on this. Thanks in advance

There most be something that others could present here other than "Cheap Transportation" (I don't find that a selling point) and good beaches and forts and trails, which you can find all over the caribbean! What could somebody really say to make me want to go on a cruise there and stay there for more than a day and a half! Come on sell me on Bermuda!

Yes, the cruiseline offers excursions throughout the time you are in Bermuda. The casino is closed though.

I see I'm in the minority here. 3 days would be too long for me. We went for 2 days in May. Day 1 we took the bus to the Caves and aquarium. Day 2 we explored the Dockyard. I guess if we had a 3rd day and the weather was warm enough we would have gone to the beach. It was nice, but I cruise because I like visiting different ports.

Day 2, I was ready to move on.

Just went to Bermuda earlier this month. The weather was perfect for two of the three days, with short periods of rain on the last day. Temps were in the 80's all three days, with warm water temps at the beaches too. Advantages are: 1) they speak English 2) the Bermuda dollar has the same value as the US dollar - no currency conversion problems 3) Goslings Black Seal Rum & the Dark and Stormys.:D

As mentioned before, Bermuda has great beaches. Great snorkeling & coral reefs. World class golf courses. The town of St Georges is a World Heritage Site - as valuable to world culture as the Taj Mahal! DW & I enjoyed the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute in Hamilton too.

There are some disadvantages too. Yes, restaurants can be expensive:(. That's why you eat on the ship for 'free'. The Dockyards/Heritage Wharf are on the northwestern tip of the island - pretty remote from the rest of the sights.

We enjoyed having a prolonged stay on the island. We were able to take it at our own pace. You can simply relax on a beach or fill your days with back to back activity. We divided our three days like this: Day one we docked at 8:00 AM at the Dockyards and got on the 9:15 ferry to St Georges. Spent the rest of the day exploring that end of the island (the town, the Unfinished Church, Tobacco Bay, Fort St Catherine) and returned by ferry in the late afternoon in time for dinner on the ship. Day two we took the bus to Hamilton and explored that city most of the day. Again, we took the late afternoon ferry back to the ship in time for dinner. Day three we just hung around the Dockyard area - took a short 90 minute glass-bottomed boat tour, shopped a little, took in the Maritime museum, and easily made it back to the ship before the 5:00 PM sailaway. When the rains came, we just ducked into a store, the pub, or the Clocktower Mall.

Go visit your local library and pick up a Fodor's Bermuda guide. It gives a good overview of what to expect.
