cruise8x+ Posted September 21, 2010 #1 Share Posted September 21, 2010 Can you get off the ship and walk around in the old and new section?
caber Posted September 21, 2010 #2 Share Posted September 21, 2010 Yes very easily. The old port is right beside the ship and the fenicular takes you up to the old town. It is good to wander around the old port and old town.

trophy_23 Posted September 24, 2010 #6 Share Posted September 24, 2010 Looking at those two ships, I'd rather be on the Maasdam! I thought the same, having only been on the Ryndam before that trip and was quite surprised by how wonderful the Eurodam really was. We absolutely loved it. Callie Rose Posted September 25, 2010 #7 Share Posted September 25, 2010 Can anyone tell me if my DH can use his mobility scooter in Old Town of Quebec? Concerned about cobblestones?
trophy_23 Posted September 25, 2010 #8 Share Posted September 25, 2010 I think it shouldn't be a problem to use the scooter. Some streets do have cobblestones and may be an issue. Stick to the sidewalk and make people get out of the way :D
cheggy Posted September 26, 2010 #9 Share Posted September 26, 2010 most of the cobbled streets looked like small side street or alleyways for the most part. if you take the funicular cablecar to top it will cost you $2 in canadian. they didn't accept american. If you are at the top there is a money exchange right there along with tours in small building in front of where you get off the car. Think there is one at the base 100 feet or so to the left too. Last fall when we were there the funicular took american. I remember it well, because the price was $2CDN or $2.25USD, something backwards about that

Back when the US dollar was worth $1.50 or more CDN, places like they gave $1.25 or a little more.

True (although in many border areas, I've used Canadian money at less than the exchange rate), but most Canadian retailers will accept US currency, even at less than advantageous rates for the American. I can see an American used to doing that being somewhat miffed when they experience a business that won't take USD here.
maryann ns Posted September 27, 2010 #16 Share Posted September 27, 2010 Banks in either country will not take coins from the other, so they have a cost in dealing with coins. I cannot imagine going to a foreign country and not having a bit of their currency for incidentals.

Did not ask them to take our money.
