Southern france: I need advice!

We're in Monaco in April '11 and would like to go to Eze. What do you all recommend--bus or rental car? We're there from 9am-11pm so there should be plenty of time. Second question: We're in Florence overnight 8am-8pm

and would like to go to either Cinque Terre and/or St Paul. Bus, train, rental car? He is comfortable driving it but says it isn't as relaxing for him as taking ship's tours. (Type A+++ !) I figure with this much time built into the schedule we can take it easy. Rental car company favorites from those ports? As always, thanks. c

Given your time, bus or train is very doable to Eze. There are many posts here about going to Eze.

 

Your Florence question should be asked on the Italy boards. You will get a lot more feedback.

It's great you have so much with your port stop in Monaco. If you want to see Eze and some other nearby smaller villages, a rental car might be worth considering. You will be there in April before the heavy summer, peak tourism crowds hit there. Here some of my notes on Eze. It's super wonderful. Also below are a few visual samples for what is there to see and enjoy.

 

The Upper or Grande Cornish highway can make it easier to travel in the area and avoid some of the congestion with certain of the larger towns along the immediately coast areas.

 

KEY HIGHLIGHTS: The old village of Eze, along the coast between Nice and Monaco, hangs up in the mountains above the water and crowds. It's wonderful to visit. Great, great views! Totally charming! Have lunch or dinner there at one of the two great eating places and feel like you're sitting on the edge of paradise! We ate at the Château Eza. Its website: http://www.chateauezarestaurant.com. At 1,407 feet above the Mediterranean, Eze offers commanding views of cliffs, sea, sprawling estates and off-shore islands. The village's narrow streets or more really paths among the buildings lead to the Jardin Exotique It is a maze of paths flanked by mammoth flowering plants and spiky cactuses. For about $3, you can walk up to the best view on the French Riviera. On a clear day, you can see Corsica! It does not get much better than Eze. Their tourism office:
