Best Outside view for pulling into/out of Port

Hi everyone!

 

I'll be on my first RCI cruise next month. I love the sailing away and arrival views and I always shoot for a public area so I can see the bow-view up front.

 

Where is the best spot for this on the Voyager-Class ships (I'll be on the Mariner). Also, I see the helicopter pad at the bow of the ship. Is this area always open? What other spots are there to look out front?

For me the Heli-Pad is the best spot if you want to look forward and did that on our last Mariner cruise from Port Canaveral. It may be cool as the wind is strong there. We were escorted out by several dolphins and had a great view of them. If you want a drink for sailaway you will need to take it with you.

If it is really windy out, there are times that the helipad is closed.

Will be looking for this answer as well. So basically, the question is when sailing out of San Pedro on the Mariner, which side of the ship has the "better view" for sailaway? Those who have cruised from this port please feel free to respond. Thanks. :)

I like to go one deck above the pool where the jogging track is. It's easy to move around and see different views.

I like the helipad too. You take the outdoor promenade deck (on Mariner, that's deck 4) all the way to the front of the ship until you reach a small metal staircase. Go up those stairs and you'll be on the helipad.

The Helipad is cool when leaving port, another cool spot is forward on deck 11 there is the bridge overlook. You can get a great view of the port and also look into the bridge and watch the crew as they take the ship out.

Sorry ...... not trying to make light of this question, but if you don't like the view from your current location ........ MOVE!! :D It's not like a departing ship is moving at the speed of light! :)

 

Seriously, the Viking Crown Lounge is always a good spot, but there is also something really nice about being outside!

That's OK, you're not making light. It's been my experience though, especially on Oasis, that if you get a spot at the railing you stay there. Seriously, it was mega-congested. I couldn't get anywhere near the railing. I just wanted to know which side of the ship, when leaving from San Pedro, California, is more "scenic", if you will. When we sail out of Miami and Fort lauderdale, we grab a spot on the port (left) side. It's a beautiful sailaway from both of those ports, on that side.

When leaving San Pedro, I prefer the right or starboard side of the ship. You will look out on the town of San Pedro, the fire station, and several bars & restaurants. The Ports of Call Restaurant has a loud speaker system and wishes most ships a fond farewell. I always look forward to that announcement.

 

The port side has a view of a park and some warehouses. However, if you go up to one of the upper decks on the port side you can see the Port of Long Beach and the Carnival ship departing.

 

Once you reach the Pacific it gets chilly and windy very quickly.

p.s. I like the left or port side out of Mimai too.
