farmerjohn Posted October 24, 2010 #2 Share Posted October 24, 2010 There is an In-n-Out Burger just north-east of the airport. 20 minute walk from the terminal or catch a cab. I just absolutely love their burgers.

I always try to avoid being the only one on the shuttle and throw a few bucks at the driver, given I'm not their customer. Done it many a time and never have a problem. http://www.airliners.net/photo/V-Australia/Boeing-777-3ZG-ER/1766021/L/ http://www.airliners.net/photo/Air-Canada/Airbus-A320-211/1424002/L/

Strange, the dozen or so times I've done this in the last 3yrs I've been asked if I valet or self parked around 75% of the time.

greatam Posted October 24, 2010 #7 Share Posted October 24, 2010 Anything to do at the airport to kill time? I already know how to drink! :D All major airlines have lounges. Quite a few allow you to buy a day pass. OR you can sign up for Priority Pass (fees involved) and get into almost all of the lounges. The Encounter restaurant (that weird looking building in the middle of the parking lots) is VERY kitschy 1960's-the Jetson's, lava lamps and all. 360 degree view of the airport. Not bad prices for food and drinks. http://www.encounterlax.com/ I personally like going to the mezzanine level of TBIT (international terminal) to the bar/restaurant on the right at the top of the stairs. Great people watching. The caveat-there are major renovations and construction going on in TBIT (expansion plus renovation). So on any given day, some things may be closed or disrupted. No-just walk from whatever terminal you are in towards the building which is in the MIDDLE of the airport (airport is horse shoe shaped) closer to the front entrance of the airport. But leave plenty of time to re-clear security for your next flight. Last time I was through LAX, on a Sunday morning, it took me 1-1/2 hours to get through security at AA terminal! Rare FlyerTalker Posted October 25, 2010 #13 Share Posted October 25, 2010 If you don't want the burgers or the Encounter, you could always take a hotel shuttle to one of the many hotels around the airport, have a meal there, sit by the pool for a bit, then come back to the airport. Again, be sure to leave PLENTY of time, as some terminals at LAX can be brutal for security screening wait times.
kelmac Posted October 25, 2010 #14 Share Posted October 25, 2010 The "parking spot" vans sounds like a great idea. (look for vans with polka dots; most are yellow and black, but they have other colors). This is the Sepulveda location. We like to get an In-N-Out burger and watch airplanes land -- nice little park across the street. Not in the mood for a burger, you can head north on Sepulvada (away from the airport) and walk a couple of blocks to Panera Bread or to Baja Fresh (featured on Opra) on the other side of the street. We do this when staying at the hotels near LAX and usually walk to these locations. If you do hop a ride on the vans, I would tip the driver!:) Kel:D
