SciFiCruiser Posted November 7, 2010 #1 Share Posted November 7, 2010 I've seen several posts mentioning cabins on, behind, in front of the hump...what it the hump and why is it relevant???
TEXASMUNK Posted November 7, 2010 #2 Share Posted November 7, 2010 Has become an RCI trademark. It is the bulge, amid ships, on RCI ships. It means your cabin extends out for the side of the ship. The balconies tend to be slightly larger to accommodate the curve of the budge. They are also centrally located for convenience.
jonbgd Posted November 7, 2010 #3 Share Posted November 7, 2010 The hump is what people do on the balconies :p
HB Cruiser Posted November 7, 2010 #4 Share Posted November 7, 2010 It is the area that extends out farther from the rest of the ship, making room for the foward elevators. On the Voyager and Freedom class ships, the balconies are no larger than any other cabin in the same catagory. The real nice thing is location. Easy access to elevators. And before you have to ask, it is not any noiser than the other areas. It is nice to extend out from the ship a bit as you can have a clear look foward/aft if you are in the center. cb at sea Posted November 7, 2010 #5 Share Posted November 7, 2010 Not all hump rooms on all ships give you extra room....only some of the ' hump' cabins on Radiance class get extra room. On the Voyager/Freedom class, the size of the cabin and balcony remain the same as any other side cabin/balcony. It's the very convenient location that the hump gives you that's the main draw! Steps from the elevator/stairway foyer.

Merion_Mom Posted November 7, 2010 #7 Share Posted November 7, 2010 Radiance, Voyager and Freedom Class ships have one; Oasis Class ships have two.

Alexis Posted November 7, 2010 #10 Share Posted November 7, 2010 I've seen several posts mentioning cabins on, behind, in front of the hump...what it the hump and why is it relevant??? I believe that pictures are worth a thousand words. Pictures are worth a thousand words. This is a picture of the Mariner and the Hump cabins on one side of her. Port Side. As you can see they bow out from the ship. Location is what it's all about and a great view. These Voyager Hump cabins are the same size as any other cabin in their category and have the same size balcony. (On the Radiance class ships especially, there are Hump cabins with bigger balconies.) All of these cabins are in a great location, have a great view, have mostly private balconies because you are out further from the ship than all others, are near the elevators and the stairs, and yet there is no extra noise because of that. ;) The center Hump cabins are the prime choice with the best views. Below is a view of the Radiance class hump cabins. You can see the balconies are quite large on some of them. With the elevators on one side of that class ship, there are not as many of the Hump cabins and their balconies are many different sizes. Sorry, My pictures have disappeared from here for Voyager, so I will have to repost them. Below is the Voyager Class and you can see the Hump cabins where all their balconies are the same size. It looks exactly like this on the other side of the hump also. That very tiny extra space you see on the balcony is actually in the cabin itself. The Voyager Class ships have two different types of balconies. Metal and Plexiglass. The only two ships in the Voyager Class that have the glass balconies are the Navigator and the Mariner. The 3 others, Voyager, Explorer and Adventure have the Balconies built into the hull and are not glass. They have a small amount of glass, under the rail, for viewing. The picture taken by CC Hawkfish from the AOS hump shows the balconies built into the hull. The picture with the glass balconies is the Mariner. Click on the pictures to enlarge them. __________________
