I think the suction on those toilets would pull the bags right on down. I cant imagine being the one to have to remove those plastic bags and dispose of them.

 

Um....this would be when the suction is not working..... :rolleyes:

I'm not sure what "more" there is to give. I know it's extremely disappointing, but what they are offering seems fair.

Well let's get them home first....but I suspect there will be much discussion about what should have been done and who was lacking doing what....:cool:

I'd rather be at work as well. Do some of you realize that not everyone gets two months off every year? :rolleyes: there are people out there who only get two weeks off (including sick days) and this was their one and only vacation. Can you imagine planning for a year, saving up for an inside cabin for a "dream vacation" to have this happen? I'm lucky and this would not have been a disaster for me, but I really feel for those whose only vacation just got ruined.

 

 

I second that. tough times on the sea. I really feel for the elderly, those that are a bit ill, or little kids. trying to explain things to these folks and having them get through tough times is hard enough.

The U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan, conducting maneuvers 120 miles south of San Diego, was diverted to help the ship. About 70,000 pounds of supplies, including bread, utensils, cups, milk, canned food and other items, will be flown to the Reagan, where helicopters will transfer them to the stricken cruise ship, Cmdr. Greg Hicks said.

I'm sure someone will come up with something "more" they think they deserve, and you can be sure they will let us all know about it here on CC. Depending on how things actually were on the ship, who knows, maybe they do deserve a little extra. I'll reserve my own opinion on that once I hear a variety of experiences. I'm really looking forward to hearing the "scoop."

While I agree with you, there will be those that also want a pound of flesh. For those Carnival executives looking to lose a little weight, this could work out well for them.

Okay, there is a part of me who is going "I'd almost be willing to be stuck to see a helicopter relief mission from an aircraft carrier service the ship I am on..."

 

I was thinking how interesting that would be, too! I'm sure we will see some awesome pics and videos when the ship returns to dry land.

 

I'm wondering what will be on those 35 pallets of provisions?! Since it was the beginning of the cruise, I imagine the ship would have more than enough food/water/beverages on board. But maybe not, or perhaps some of the food storage areas were rendered inaccessible by the fire. :confused:

No hot water to wash dishes........need paper plates:D

They do, with Lloyds of London if I recall the annual report correctly. I'm not sure what the policy covers, but my expectation is that it would cover the refunds, loss of use (future cruises) air travel, tow and spoilage loss. The additional future cruise would probably not be covered. I'm basing this on a standard large scale business insurance policy, Carnival of course may have more or less coverage.

 

Would they not have insurance policies that would cover some of this?

just like what happens at home with a power outage, Food spoilage can happen quickly without the proper refrigeration

I do feel sorry for those who are using up their precious and hard-to-come-by vacation time. And I feel bad for disabled people who struggle to be comfortable even under ideal circumstances. And I feel bad for anyone with kids.

 

But other than that...I WISH I WAS THERE!! However there may not be many like me on board...people who have the time, who have the patience and have the sense of adventure it would take to enjoy this kind of FREE cruise and then look forward to taking another free cruise in the future.

 

But for those who have kids, are handicapped, have little vacation time to spare, or even those who's personalities make them unable to enjoy this type of situation...my prayers are with you all.

 

I was going to post something like this but it seemed disrespectful to all those there. I mean, no matter how you cut it, everyone's vacation was messed up, people risked their lives putting out the fire, there will be a hardship on those who are cruising after wards. But having said that.......once it is all said and done, man what a story those people are going to have. I know that I would be thinking it was a neat adventure as would my kids. My hubby can get grouchy so maybe I would just leave him at one corner of the deck with a good book, LOL.

 

My 12 year old asked what the people did when they had to go to the bathroom. That would be the one part that I would not consider an 'adventure'. Otherwise, I think it would be quite the experience. Inconvenient as hell but an experience nonetheless.

What would you do just sit and watch the water? Casinos closed....more then likely bars closed.....no hot food......they can't run the filter in the pools......seriously what is there to do on this free cruise? Not to mention people are using vacation days which will not be refunded......

 

I'd be surprised if the bars are closed. In fact, the drinks might even be free!

Count me in that group who would LOVE to be on that ship right now! Don't get me wrong, the no toilets, etc. would suck, and it would be hard for people onboard with kids or the elderly, etc. I'm just saying that for ME personally, i would be thrilled to be a part of an adventure....now...i HAVE been on 11 cruises, and I can certainly understand how disappointed people would be who are on their first cruise, etc....but for me....i would be outside, watching all the goings-on...and making the best of it...:)

I was on the Splendor when it bumped the Radiance!

I'm scheduled to go on December 12 as well.

Feel really bad for all passengers and crew on board, must be horrible...

 

You had an eventful cruise then. Didn't the Captain have a heart attack on the way back from Cabo and the ship had to turn around? Or was that a seperate incident.

Then she hit the PV pier again in December I think it was and took a big chunk out of the dock.

Poor Splendor.

My heart goes out to all the passengers.

This would be a frustrating and disappointing experience - BUT - how cool would it be to see all the helicopters, navy tugboats, etc. - I think if you had the right attitude (and no underlying medical condition that this could impact) this could be an experience of a lifetime - especially since Carnival is coming through so well for those impacted. The only thing this is really costing them is lost vacation tie - and a little inconvenience - but think of the stories they'll have to tell!

 

What a difference between this ship and the Titanic - which also had a mishap at sea. A short 98 years makes a big difference ...:) (ok, so it wasn't an iceberg - but firefighting technology has come a long way, too)

Don't the cash register work on power........

 

Since all of the onboard purchases are charged to your room key im pretty sure they can process everything by paper. I remember when i bought a few things a store at half moon cay they wrote down my folio on some peice of paper and then later that day it was posted on the account
