Cruz4Days Posted November 10, 2010 #1427 Share Posted November 10, 2010 When did 3300 passengers turn into 4500 passengers? Seems high but maybe the 4500 number includes passenger and crew.
TMJplus1 Posted November 10, 2010 #1428 Share Posted November 10, 2010 I have the AIS up, don't see the Tugs or the Splendor..???? In the other thread, someone said something about the ship not wanting to pinpoint their exact location on GPS to thwart any potential trouble. SteveB48 Posted November 10, 2010 #1429 Share Posted November 10, 2010 The AIS system we see is a system of volunteers with marine receivers and computers. They receive the AIS data via radio and transmit it over the internet to servers that provide the data we see. The system is really used for ships to track each other at sea. This means there are holes in what we can see. No receivers in the area and the ships disappear. Hopefully that's close to correct. Keep watching. They will reappear. Loonbeam Posted November 10, 2010 #1434 Share Posted November 10, 2010 It depends on where they are from. If they are Filipino, they should be able to come ashore as a visitor for up to 30 days without a visa, as long as they don't work ashore (which is different than getting paid for work on the ship even if not on it) I would expect that most of the crew does not have visas that would permit this. Administrators Rare LauraS Posted November 10, 2010 Administrators #1435 Share Posted November 10, 2010 When we sailed Splendor it was listed as 3, 299 pax. We were on that ill-fated swine flu cruise that re-routed to SF (in the rain). We opted to disembark in LB as we had word that our son had been taken to the hospital with the flu. Even then, with our early departure, CCL gave us a great incentive for a future cruise. It was a near riot situation. Our situation in no way compares to what is happening now. I hope the current pax are behaving better than the ones on our cruise. :) Pat I can attest to the fact that there WAS a near riot on the "swine" cruise of April 2009, as Pat says. I was on board, and a few of our hosts have video of the chaos and behavior of passengers in the lobby. It was that behavior, and the subsequent meeting with the cruise director, that lead to the decision to return to Long Beach and allow those who wanted to, to disembark. It wasn't until more than two weeks later that Carnival made a discussion to offer a discount to those on board.
Rare ghstudio Posted November 10, 2010 #1436 Share Posted November 10, 2010 Wow...Someone in the navy department woke up!!!! There is a nuclear carrier and nuclear powered subs, all carrying nuclear weapons within 1000 yards of the Carnival ship and the tugs...and if you track one, you are tracking them all. Turning the tracking off is easily understandable....
Taxguy77 Posted November 10, 2010 #1437 Share Posted November 10, 2010 Well with how Carnival is responding with full credit and another cruise, not only are they getting lemonade but it's spiked with Grey Goose. They are doing their best to make it up to keep their passengers as happy as could be. Spiked? Well, OK, but It may have been through the goose already.

Too bad it came that close to a riot for CCL to wake up to the seriousness of the situation.
tonit964 Posted November 10, 2010 #1441 Share Posted November 10, 2010 yes that's a more realistic report. As I said earlier glad to hear people are having a good time. Enjoying their free trip and hopefully looking forward to their next free full-service cruise. According to the article on Yahoo, you may be right. One person was able to call his employer, a Colorado news station and said the mood is pretty upbeat. Passengers are being entertained with acoustic music, board games, dancing, and trivia. The kids are playing at the camp and having scavenger hunts. There is a 2 hour wait for food though. No casino, bars or pool. They are currently enroute to San Diego, according to the article. Glad to hear it's manageble. Toni
