suebee53 Posted November 20, 2010 #1 Share Posted November 20, 2010 I will actually be using much of my time on our upcoming cruise to work on my laptop (while my DH gets a mental health break). Any suggestions on good quiet places to tuck myself away, particularly with electrical outlets? Also, is only the buffet open at embarkation time, or do they open the pizza area as well? Thanks! *Mach* Posted November 20, 2010 #2 Share Posted November 20, 2010 The Explorer's library is very quiet... great place for doing exactly what you're interested in doing. Power outlets are available. Beyond that I'd suggest one of the lounges during the day, power is available there as well. Stripes comes to mind as a suggestion. The buffet is open when you embark along with the Mongolian Grill, the grill for hamburgers and hot dogs (and steak sandwiches now, I believe...) in addition to pizza!! Have a great cruise. I love the Ecstasy! :)
salty dingo Posted November 20, 2010 #3 Share Posted November 20, 2010 Usually the promenade area has lots of plush window seats and they are often not occupied during the earlier hours. Also, the area where the art auction is held is often empty when there is no auction. When we sailed last on the Pride of America, there were conference rooms that were accessible, and all set up for work. I went in there to check email on my laptop. The library is a good quiet place but the hours it is open can be very limited. Most of the show lounges will be open and empty during the day. You should be able to find an outlet somewhere, because everywhere with carpet needs power nearby for a vacuum cleaner. Especially when the ship is in port you won't have any trouble finding quiet places.
MrPete Posted November 20, 2010 #4 Share Posted November 20, 2010 It's been years since I was on a Fantasy class shio, and even longer since I've been on the Ecstasy, but I always loved hanging out in that small area out back of the Lido cafe. Very few back out there, and used to look out over the rarely visited childrens play area. Not sure if that's changed now that it is the serenity area. This was before finding out you don't get any more quiet than your own private balcony.
Barsnikel Posted November 20, 2010 #5 Share Posted November 20, 2010 All good answers. I do bible reading every morning, so when we cruise I can always find a quiet place... even some of the lounge areas that are "closed" don't have the doors locked, and you can slip in there. But my favorite place is the library... but as said, the hours are limited. We'll be on the Dec 6th sailing
Rare Essiesmom Posted November 20, 2010 #6 Share Posted November 20, 2010 Many of the available outlets in public areas will be the two prong European type. Presuming that your laptop power pack is dual voltage, just bring along a plug adapter for the European outlets...Easily available at Radio Shack, etc. EM
mossboss Posted November 20, 2010 #7 Share Posted November 20, 2010 In addition to the buffet, Mongolian grill and burgers, right next to the Mongolian they have the rotisserie and the sandwich place is right next to the pizza. I really like to hang out by the coffee shop early in the morning. I love the Ecstasy!

Again--BLESS YOU ALL! :::back to packing::: A Grateful Sue I love Ecstasy too, so you made a good choice .. but wondering minds want to know, are you doing offline work?? It would be so expensive to plan on spending a lot of time online, so Im crossing my fingers thats not it. Are you working online or offline? I know I get off in the ports to use the internet, mucho cheaper. Its only $1 an hour in Progresso. Be sure and take the time to see the shows and get to know the CD Steve Cassel if you havent already meet him. Ecstasy looks fabulous after her last dry dock. suebee53 Posted November 21, 2010 Author #10 Share Posted November 21, 2010 Actually, I'm writing a book and don't need internet for it. And, in fact, DH and I are purposely not going to buy internet time to isolate ourselves as much as possible! I hear the compassion in your heart behind your question and appreciate it so much! Thanks for the heads-up on Steve Cassel, as well. I know how important the CD is. On our very first cruise, we connected with a former CD from HAL (who was sailing Norwegian along with a former HAL singer dancer--very interesting!) who regaled us with story after story! Boy did that inform our view of cruising! ;-) Sue
firefly333 Posted November 21, 2010 #11 Share Posted November 21, 2010 Ecstasy has been picked for the Crystal Award multiple years, and Im sure its because he is so loved and it shows his crew loves him. He does the fiddle for the country show, and man he is so good and his love for what he is doing just shows, he grins from ear to ear. He is really good. he also juggles and plays the violin later in the cruise. Iv never meet a CD like him.

Sue <--having trouble falling asleep as the countdown continues. . . Id heard and read a lot of good comments about him and thought oh I probably wouldnt like him that much, as CDs usually are more annoying than not... but surprise I think he is great too. Iv been on a lot of the same ships as you, Princess and RCL. I like that he goes out of his way to meet the passengers, doesnt stay hidden away and people can talk to him. He doesnt get silly and dress up in drag like some, but he does some cartoon characters and makes you laugh.
suebee53 Posted November 21, 2010 Author #15 Share Posted November 21, 2010 Sounds like a total winner to me, Firefly! The CD can make a HUGE difference. I thoroughly enjoyed reading John Heald's blog about the Splendor "adventure." When you genuinely like people, it shows. It shines! I'm looking forward to doing more than merely tolerating our CD on the Ecstasy, thanks to you!
firefly333 Posted November 21, 2010 #16 Share Posted November 21, 2010 He does have kind of a cartoony voice .. at first I was like oh this is going to get old fast but the way he lights up when he performs shows he truly loves performing and making people happy. He only actually sings one song, but its good. I think its devil goes down to Georgia.
amylee1178 Posted November 21, 2010 #17 Share Posted November 21, 2010 There's what I called my hidey-hole on the Fantasy class ships on Promenade. On the window seats where the side of the ship juts out, there's a wonderful spot to sit and read, and the tables are there. And yes, there's a 110 outlet :D It's right across from the casino, but it's tucked away.
suebee53 Posted November 21, 2010 Author #18 Share Posted November 21, 2010 Thanks, Amy! I appreciate the work you did to illustrate your point! I'll look for "your" hidey-hole! :) (. . . firefly333 Posted November 21, 2010 #19 Share Posted November 21, 2010 Dont miss the Mongolian BBQ, its only open until 2:30 (open for lunch only). I kept getting tied up and missing it until the last day the last time I was on Ecstasy. My favorite new thing on Ecstasy.

I usually hung out there while my husband was in the casino winning money :D Another cool thing about sitting there is that there's a bar about 10 feet away to pick up a soda. Enjoy!
