Would you upgrade from a deck 6 balcony to a Junior Suite?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!! Quick question...my balcony on Voyager is on deck 6. I requested a quote for an upgrade from CruiseQuick and the only rooms still available for my June 27th cruise are junior suites. The price is $300 a person for the upgrade. Is this worth the cash? I have heard negative things about the deck 6 balcony due to the solid bottoms instead of glass. Thanks for your answers!

nothing at all wrong with deck 6. Lot's of money just for a cabin a little larger. Go for it if that's what you want but don't do it because you're worried about deck 6 balconies

toronto:

It depends on: which cabin on deck 6, which JS, how many people in the cabin, what your expectations are for your accommodations, what your budget is...

It's just not a "yes" or "no" kind of question.

Carol,

The room I have now is 6668, which is very aft. The JS that are available according to cruisequick are 9618,9624,9318,9324 (all on the "hump") and 9558,9568. It is just me and my husband. My husband broke his foot 2 weeks ago so I am a little concerned with proximity to the elevators and space in the room, but he said he would be fine. Also he spends alot of time in the room, sitting on the balcony (even before the broken foot) so I'm a little wary of the solid bottoms on the balcony. I'm just fretting. We only go on one vacation a year, so the extra money isn't the end of the world but it did seem like alot. Thanks for any info you have

Ok, Megan, I'm NOT an expert (though I play one on TV! ) but here goes:

money: for me, anyway, it's more than just a matter of the absolute dollars. How much did you pay in the first place for the E category cabin, and does this represent a huge leap, or just a small increase? That's just a different way to look at the $600.

location: even if hubby says, "I'll be fine, don't worry about me" - I would say TAKE the JS on the hump. They are right by the elevators, hump cabins have a bigger balcony (though not by as much as aft cabins) than other cabins in the same category.

space: JS *is* bigger than an E. We have been 3 to an E, and we always manage just fine, even though *one* of us isa teenage girl, but it IS noticeably smaller than a JS.

I understand what you mean by 'we could afford it but money does matter.' It's your vacation. Enjoy it in whatever way you are most comfortable.

And have a fabulous trip!

Thanks so much Carol for the advice.

My current room is a D category room that I paid $650 for a person (which was considerably less than it was being advertised for) and with the 300 additional it is still alot less than the advertised price on all other cruise sales websites.

I talked to my mom (a RCCL regular, I have never been on one) and she had negative things to say about the "hump" rooms, saying the balconies were "weird" (smaller, etc). But they have never been on a Voyager ship and only know this from a tour they took on their last cruise of the rooms. The other two rooms offered are also very close to the elevators.

Thanks so much...Megan

Book the JS!!! You will get extra ammenities like access to the concerige lounge and double crown & anchor points. It is WELL worth the extra $$$!!!!

RUN, do not walk and grab 9318 or 9618. Your mother is WRONG about those staterooms. The very center of the "hump" is the very best location on the ship! JS is well worth an extra $600. Frankly, I don't understand how you are getting such a good price and why those staterooms are still available.
If it were me, I would not be staying in a stateroom with the numbers 666 in it.
Also, with a broken foot, your husband is going to have a much easier time in a larger shower and room. Plus, the room is just around the corner from the elevator (no noise problems). No concerige lounge for the JS.

Grab the hump JS! We have stayed in 9614 twice, both times connecting to a D9 and the size difference between the two cabins is significant (almost 100 square feet). The hump balcony is also larger than a standard balcony due to the curve, and the hump cabins are right by the aft centrum elevators. The JS also has a walk-in closet, tons of storage, a bathtub, upgraded toiletries and robes.
