Grand Drydock Issues/Others Scheduled

With the issues being caused by the upcoming Grand Princess drydock I thought it might be of interest to repost information on other scheduled Princess ship drydocks. You can make you own decision about booking cruises before or after the drydock. Please note that all of the below information is subject to change. My thanks to Buddy604 for the original information.

Confirmed today that no cruises are currently scheduled for the below drydock dates

Crown Princess - 10/26/11 to 11/05/11 - 11 Days

Caribbean Princess - 11/08/11 to 11/20/11 - 13 Days

Star Princess - 11/14/11 to 12/08/11 - 25 Days

Ruby Princess - 12/11/11 to 12/23/11 - 13 Days

Sapphire Princess - 01/07/12 to 02/04/12 - 29 Days

Golden Princess - 05/09/12 to 05/20/12 - 12 Days

Dawn Princess - 05/20/12 to 05/30/12 - 11 Days

The Star and Sapphire have major drydocks scheduled in the next year or so. Perhaps not a Skywalkersectomy (with the Star who knows) but there will probably be some disruption to a cruise or cruises prior to the drydock and I wouldn’t want to be on the first post drydock cruise. Note that the Sapphire was originally scheduled for 22 days but it appears that the January 28 cruise has been cancelled to make it 29 days – things change.

Cruises schedules have not be released for these dates so can’t confirm these drydock dates

Sea Princess - 09/20/12 to 09/30/12 - 11 Days

Coral Princess - 09/12/12 to 10/02/12 - 11 Days

Emerald Princess - 12/07/12 to 12/17/12 - 11 Days

Most of the ships are having "General Maintenance", but the Star is being "finished" so she will be a true sister to the Golden, but no movement of Skywalker is planned. The Grand is getting a complete face lift as is the SAFFIRE (similar to the DIAMOND's late last year)

I wonder when (if) the enhancements to the Grand (Tea Garden/Room? and new Pizzaria) will be added accross the fleet??

You had highlighted "the Star is being "finished" so she will be a true sister to the Golden". The Star was the first of the original Grand class ships scheduled for a major refit. There were issues during the drydock (Construction workers could not gain entry to the U.S.?) and some modifications were not done. Subsequently the Caribbean and Golden have gone through the refit. On those ships a new Casino was constructed on deck 7 (Promenade) and the new Crown Grill and "Window Suites" were constructed on deck 6 (Fiesta). Those changes should be made during the Star's next drydock. Compare deck 6 & 7 on the Star with those on the Golden and Caribbean for "Before" and "After". The only question now is will Princess make the Star like the Golden and the Caribbean or like the refitted Grand (no movement of Casino and Crown Grill with addition of "Tea" Library and Venetian Pizzeria on deck 5 (Plaza). Only time will tell.

We may be going on the Caribbean Princess in Dec of this year. If she has already had refit last year, what work, additions, changes will be made to her in Nov ?
I believe that her last drydock was in the Spring of 2008. This would only be for routine maintenance items that are difficult to do during a cruise such as replace public space carpeting, work that would take necessary systems out of service or access needed below the waterline. Don't anticipate any significant changes unless Princess decides to add the "Tea Library" and Venetian Pizzeria being added to the Grand in April.

Planning Sapphire for April 12. Any idea what they might be doing to her?? 29 days it would seem like a MAJOR redo.

Thanks

Unfortunately I don't know. Many things were not added during the Diamond's drydock last year such as no IC and Vines and no Crown Grill that have been added to other Grand class ships. The Diamond and Sapphire were built by Mitsubushi in Japan and may have different design features than other Grand class ships. 29 days is a long time to do only minor changes. Then you have the new modifications to the Grand (Alfredo's Pizzeria and Leaves Tea Library) which are nothing like the changes planned for the Star in 2008 and actually implemented on the Caribbean and the Golden in 2009 such as Cat WS Window Suites on Fiesta deck, New Casino on Fiesta deck and new Crown Grill on Promenade deck. We will be one the Sapphire twice this year and will see if I can get any info at all.

Hello, I just booked the Crown for 2/18/12. This will be our 4th time on the Crown. We sailed her when she was only 6 months old. The last cruise was Feb 2010. The mattress in our Caribe deck cabin in 2010 was very very uncomfortable. Does anyone know what will be done on the Crown drydock in October?

Thanks,

Marianne

We are on the Star in October and then again in February so it will be interesting to experience the changes before and after.
It was originally planned for the Star to have the same arrangement on the Promenade and Fiesta decks as the Golden and the Caribbean. In fact, the Star was supposed to get the changes first. Presumable those changes will done during the drydock. The one question might be will Princess redo the existing Vines Bar/Vines Shop area to eliminate the unproductive Vines Shop and add an Alfredo's Pizzeria as on the Grand and apparently to be added on the Sapphire in January. Maybe someone else knows specifics and can post.

Will the Star and the Sapphire be getting Window Suites, as the Grand received in her recent drydock? The WS's are wonderful!! I hope that they will be added to these (and the other) Princess ships.

Presumably the Star will be getting Window Suites as originally planned. Princess apparently included the new Sapphire Princess deck plans in the 2012-2013 Cruise Atlas and as shown there will be no WS on the Sapphire.
