Homosassa Posted February 17, 2011 #26 Share Posted February 17, 2011 Gma is correct. I also started crusing back when she did and soda was free on any cruiseline I went on. It didn't matter much to me as I was never a soda drinker.
bythehex Posted February 17, 2011 #27 Share Posted February 17, 2011 In 1998 on the Imagination my son got soda free in the dining room with dinner. That was the last time I remember seeing it for free on any cruise ship we've been on. None of us drink soda anymore, so it's not an issue for us. :D
Haoie Posted February 17, 2011 #28 Share Posted February 17, 2011 Maybe the coworker just brought his/her own soda to the buffet and forgot?
MpwdMom Posted February 17, 2011 #29 Share Posted February 17, 2011 The only free soda we had was at the Past Guests Reception....we ordered diet coke.
cruisinfanatic Posted February 17, 2011 #30 Share Posted February 17, 2011 Soda in the dining room was definitely NO charge for my first few Carnival cruises
G'ma Posted February 18, 2011 #31 Share Posted February 18, 2011 Gma is correct. I also started crusing back when she did and soda was free on any cruiseline I went on. It didn't matter much to me as I was never a soda drinker. Ditto, here, I enjoy a Diet coke once in a while...but, water is my first choice...and not from a bottle. I was weaned at about 9 months old. :D:eek:
G'ma Posted February 18, 2011 #32 Share Posted February 18, 2011 And where did my Lido deck horse racing go???:( Absolutely....how much fun was THAT???? I recall yout "team" could even make costumes for your horse. And, halloween parties when nobody brought a costume from home but was made from whatever you, your friends and your cabin steward could round up..Big parade....with winners.... CruiserKid Posted February 18, 2011 #33 Share Posted February 18, 2011 Perhaps your friend is thinking of the self service lemonade, ice tea and fruit punch dispensers at lido restaurant. The drink dispensers sure looked like the soda dispensers at fast food restaurants. Fruit punch is gone now.

enveno1 Posted February 18, 2011 #35 Share Posted February 18, 2011 I have sailed with Carnival for the past 13 years and have never received free soda.
icequeen Posted February 19, 2011 #36 Share Posted February 19, 2011 We have been on multiple cruises beginning in 1993 and I don't recall ever having free soda available to us. I think it is one of the main income generators for cruise lines now :)
deborahjo Posted February 19, 2011 #37 Share Posted February 19, 2011 Was on Carnival in 1978 on the Carnivale and yes it was free then. Of course an inside cabin was 2 times of the price of todays cabins.
misssea Posted February 19, 2011 #38 Share Posted February 19, 2011 My first cruise was on Carnival Celebration in 1995. You had to pay for cans of soda at the bars but the buffet had free fountain soda, even when it was closed. I remember specifically my girlfriend and I walked up to the machine and filled our glasses, not sure if we were allowed to do that being that the buffet was closed. I cannot remember if it was free in the diningroom but I don't think it was there either.
KNowme1st Posted February 19, 2011 #39 Share Posted February 19, 2011 was on a cruise in 2003, 2006, 2009 no free soda on any of them
wonderfullife Posted February 21, 2011 #40 Share Posted February 21, 2011 Had free soda in the MDR on Royal Caribbean when we started cruising and that was not that long ago. It stopped after our first or second cruise. Disney had it at the buffet for anyone when we went on that line. I have never had free soda on Carnival but not saying it never was. Just not in my time. dclark Posted February 21, 2011 #41 Share Posted February 21, 2011 Back in '89, not only did we get free soda on RCL in the mdr, when we came to dinner, our drink of choice was already there waiting for us! My first CCL cruise was in '98, no free soda anywhere. But, they did have in the buffet area, a hopper of oranges and a juicer that you would toss the oranges into and out would come fresh oj! Sargent_Schultz Posted February 21, 2011 #42 Share Posted February 21, 2011 In the 70s, we had free table wine in the MDR on France. Neither French Cruise Lines, nor the France exist these days. A few years earlier, dinosaurs still roamed the planet. Change happens.
