6rugrats Posted February 17, 2011 #2 Share Posted February 17, 2011 You really have a lot of questions! If the ship can't make a port, you will receive a refund of your port taxes. Sometimes another port will be substituted, sometimes you just stay at sea. No idea how often this happens.
tak81288 Posted February 17, 2011 #3 Share Posted February 17, 2011 Will this happen often? It can happen from time to time, especially during the peak hurricane season time. Weather is hard to predict There are several things that can happen: 1. That port day becomes another sea day and you may miss the port all together 2. The may visit all the ports on the itinerary but they may change the order to avoid the storm 3. The ship may stay longer in a particular port 4. A new port may be added to replace the one that was missed. Many variables go into the decision on what happens: $$, is there room t particular ports for the days to change...etc.. Cuizer2 Posted February 17, 2011 #4 Share Posted February 17, 2011 Will this happen often? It does not happen often, however, it does happen, which is why you should never plan a wedding at a port stop. Have the wedding before the cruise or on the ship, but never at a port stop. MagnoliaFly Posted February 17, 2011 #5 Share Posted February 17, 2011 It does not happen often, however, it does happen, which is why you should never plan a wedding at a port stop. Have the wedding before the cruise or on the ship, but never at a port stop. This happened on our first cruise. A couple planned their wedding at Grand Cayman, the ship couldn't make it in due to rough seas being too bad for tenders to go to shore so they canceled the entire port. The wedding couple had their entire family flown in to Grand Cayman for the wedding and reception and we never able to see them. Carnival did what they could on the ship (I saw a huge photoshoot they did for the couple so who knows what else) but yeah - super risky to plan something like that relying on weather at a port that doesn't have a dock. cb at sea Posted February 17, 2011 #6 Share Posted February 17, 2011 It seldom happens at a port where you'll dock, unless there's some MAJOR storm! Tendered ports are the most common "skipped" ports...and it can happen...doesn't always! There's really no predicting it.
jocap Posted February 17, 2011 #7 Share Posted February 17, 2011 If, on the otherhand, it's just normal weather- thunder, hail, snow....it's up to you whether you go or not! We were drenched in Ephesus, and followed the snow ploughs to Petra..... Jo.

paul929207 Posted February 17, 2011 #9 Share Posted February 17, 2011 Don't worry about it. There is nothing you can do. If the weather acts up & you miss a port, that just gives you an excuse to sail again. Be3st of all, if a port is skipped, you can't miss the ship in that port. :)
