Ventura N111 - Free shuttle at ports

Hi,

I am hoping someone can help me.

Could you tell me if P&O lay on free shuttle bus services to the local towns when at each port?

We are going to the following locations:

Cadiz

Barcelona

Monte Carlo

Florence/Pisa (from Livorno)

Rome (from Civitavecchia)

Gibraltar

We will probably be going on the organised excursions with P&O for Florence and Rome and doing the rest DIY.

If free shuttles are not available, which ports can you walk to the town from?

Thank you for your help.

Nick

Shuttles are laid on in

Barcelona

Livorno

Civitavecchia

Cadiz, the port is right in the town

Monte Carlo tender port and tenders drop you off in the harbour.

Gibraltar 15-20min walk or local taxis run a shuttle for £3 (per person) return

Hi Brian,

Thanks for your quick response.

I assume you can walk from the harbour in to Monte Carlo then?

It appears I missed out Valencia in my original post. Is a shuttle available here as well, or can you just walk from the port into town?

Thanks

Nick

Unlike other cruise companies (especially American lines like Celebrity) P&O always provide a free shuttle bus from port, except for Gibraltar where mini bus taxi drivers fill a mini bus at around 1e pp and take you down the road to the HIgh Street...but this port is easily walkable anyway (unless very elderly or disabled) about 10-15mins flat walk, with some shops along the route to pass the time.

If the attractions are more than say 1/2 hr away - Like Rome , you will have to book a tour or get a train. There isn't much at the port dockside.

P&O don't provide the shuttle buses at Livorno...they are provided by the port authorities, and cost 5 euros, which are paid directly to the port conductor/employee at the coach door. The ticket is for unlimited travel to/fro. On some US ships, you pay on board your vessel with dollars on your ship card.

On the two occasions I have been there with P&O, it has been free. P&O issued a press release a few months ago that they would provide free shuttles at all ports

Here is a list of all ports world wide with shuttle arrangements

That's good to hear; it's over a year since I was in Livorno with P&O, who went to great lengths to tell us about the port fees being paid to the Livorno authorities. They must have come to some agreement.

Yes you can either go into the OLD TOWN where the palace is... when you get off the tender that is up the hill on the left side of the port there is also the Oceanography museum up here ... gift stalls ( the only place for souvenirs) YOu will have your port guide leaflet in you cabin to show you the main places... of if you want to visit the posh shops and casino area then walk around the harbour to the right and there is an under pass which you can take which brings you up in the area where the casion and posh hotels are... If youwant to folloow the F1 route you can do this either on foot or take the land train which runs from the old town and picks up out side the oceanography museum and other places on the route. YOu can by post cards which show the route or down load it before you go if you are an F1 fan and want to walk it..

Its a great place to visit... but its worth planing your day .. the chaning of the gurard out side the palace is great to see as well . Its around noon I think but again its in the port guide... or just google the Monte Carlo Monaco tourist office....
