Fuel Surcharge

Has anyone been hit with the fuel surcharge yet??
And if not, why not?

The usual freak-out point is $70/bbl

Crude is now over $100/bbl and counting.

Fuel Surcharge has to pop up soon, I'm thinking.

I'm surprised we haven't seen it yet, which makes me suspicious.

What's going on??

Probably because demand is up and cruises are costing more. Suspicious of what?

This was my thought for asking. My husband told me "to check my boards" :D

Suspicious of what?
Suspicious that they've had cost increases already factored-in now, for at least a year

(i.e. we've been over-paying all along?)

thus they don't need to impose Surcharge until it gets past maybe $120/bbl ;)

If I am not mistaken, oil prices were at aoprox $145 p/barrel when the last FS was imposed.

Overpaying for a cruise ??? I beg to differ on that point. I recently paid less than $60 per day for a balcony stateroom on a 7 night cruise !

All these 72 hour sales, that for once many have been better rates than ES ...and people think prices are high right now??

No one here knows how far in advance Carnival has hedged their bet, but everyone has to be watching with oil hitting $100. If they werent watching, there wouldnt be a new fuel surcharge, has it been added yet thread every other day.

Oil has hit the $100.00 mark on a few occassions in 2010 and -0- FS imposed. How long oil remains at $100.00+ will possibly be the tipping point......Time will tell.

If you have a paid in full cruise can they still add the fuel surcharge? Or will the charge be for cruises that aren't yet paid in full?

I forgot how this works since the last fuel surcharge was imposed..

Thanks.

Yes they can charge even after paid in full. It will be at check-in I believe.

I personally would doubt they would charge people during check in.

.... though no one knows how it will be handled, ...guesses aside.

Last time was completely different ...the contract has been changed etc.

We will see a fuel surcharge as such. There was such an up roar and then refunding of the sur charges last time. I expect that you are going to see cruise prices go up to account for the increase so they dont have to say "a fuel surcharge". Anything not all ready having sailed the prices will go up, we saw an August cruise jump $200 a person this week and not because the ship is anywhere near being sold out. They will make up the money but I think they want to avoid "surcharges". It wil make Carnival look good if they dont do it, even though it states they can..

Two years ago or so a fuel sir-charge was implement on one of our cruises after our final payment. It was on our SS Card to the tune of $7 pp pd.

Pd $196 for 4 of us, 2 cabins.
