Nassau (Atlantis or not)

We will be visiting Nassau for a day in April with our 9 & 6 year olds in tow. Looking at another thread on this subject, I took the advice given and tried to book a room at Comfort Suites in order to get the passes to Atlantis that come with the room. CS is, unfortunately, booked for that day. My questions are: is there another hotel that offers passes to Atlantis? If not, are we better to get the passes through the excursions with Carnival, or at Atlantis itself? Also, IS Atlantis our best bet on Nassau? I'm fine with scrapping the Atlantis idea if there are other things just as fun for our kiddos - I just don't want to regret not going there, either. We're on a pretty tight budget, so the cost is a big factor on this. If it's worth it, I'll earmark the money, but I don't want to spend that money only to find out we'd have been better off doing something else on Nassau.

Thank you for any and all advice.

I believe that the Comfort Inn is the only hotel which has access to the Atlantis. It is quite an exceptional place but cheap it is not. We spent a week at the Comfort inn and spent a lot of time at the Atlantis. But boy- I'd be hard pressed to spend that much for the day.

Since you're on Carnival, the kids are not going to get to do a water-park on another island, unless they go to Atlantis. If you've never been, then get a pass for the sake of the kids. They will love it. Take some time to see all the wildlife they have there.

As a previous poster said, look at the Bahamas Port of Call section for more info on Atlantis. There is a tour company called Majestictoursbahamas that offers this excursion cheaper than going thru Carnival. I just ordered our tickets for Atlantis Aquaventure thru them for our cruise this summer.

I have been looking into this my self, My husband and I were in Nassau this past September and we regret not going then, we will be cruising again this coming September with our 7 yr old daughter and 8 yr old nephew we will definitely be doing Atlantis. I have been looking into the Comfort Inn in Nassau and it really is a better deal than paying ship price for Atlantis. I would check out the prices there, I would say that you should be able to save quite a bit of money by going that way. Hope this helps.

Been to Nassau twice. The first time I didn't want to spend the money for Atlantis. This last time we had planned on getting passes at Atlantis as it was off season. My DM got sick and we didn't go. When we go again I will try for Atlantis again. I second the majestic tours. It's 120.00 for adults and 80.00 for kids under 12 for the Aquaventure. I would try to prebook it as it's getting to be the busy season

If you want a beach day look into going to Blue Lagoon. You could also look into getting a hotel day pass at the Sheraton or the Wyndham. You can find alot of information on these on the ports of call Bahamas board.

Ah! Ok - I'm new to these boards today, didn't realize the layout. Thanks for the direction!

I haven't been to Atlantis, so can't compare & no reason to steer you away from that.

You and your kids might like a dolphin excursion. I did that when I went to Nassau, and it was a wonderful experience. The blue lagoon itself is nice & a good place to relax & enjoy the beach & water. We walked around & peeked in on some of the other activities while we were there, like the sea lion encounter. You can save quite a bit of money booking with blue lagoon directly. It isn't hard to get there, just take a taxi to the landing & they will get you to the island with their own boat.

I went to Atlantis last year while in Nassua through the Comfort Suites. We were 7 people total, 4 adults, 3 children and I booked 2 rooms. I'm not sure if the savings is worth it. They make it seem that it is "right next door" and it is but its not as close as you think. It is a hike. We checked in, was sent to the back of the hotel to get our band, then off to Atlantis, with no direction. We stopped to ask many people and they just kept telling us over that way. It did take us a while to find where we were suppose to be. With that though, Atlantis in itself is Beautiful, crowded but beautiful. It is a place to see ONCE. We were there during a cold spell so we only stayed about 4 hrs and went on a few rides. The lines were long. If you really want to do it, I would do it but I wouldn't do it through the Comfort Suites. I would go through the tour, Carnival or to Atlantis directly. Would probably make it alot easier, especially if you have kids involved.

We took the Carnival excursion to Atlantis and were not impressed at all. There were many cruise ships in port that day, and Atlantis was packed to the gills! Our kids enjoyed the aquarium, but everything else was so very crowded, we could hardly move. We first tried the beach, but the odor from the exhaust from all the watercrafts was really unpleasant. Then we went to use our coupon for our lunch that was included in our Carnival excursion. The lines were so long and the food was just OK. The waterpark lines were outrageous.

Most likely it would have been a much better experience if there were less cruise ships in port that day. I would definitely check that before planning a day at Atlantis. But for us, if we visit Nassau again, Atlantis will not be on our list "to-do."

Whatever you do, have a wonderfull cruise!!

The above is the charge to get in for a day ,per person. We were last week, I personally wouldn't pay that. It was very cold and those that went to the beach couldn't get in the water. You can go into the casino (of course) and walk around on the outside, but the doors are heavily guarded for the rest of the resort. It use to be complimentary, but I have to say if I was paying big bucks to stay there, I would not like seeing all the cruise folks roaming around.

The water taxi is $3. Town taxi is $4, which is a wild ride and they packed the people in. It is a very depressing island.

The Aquapark day pass AT Atlantis is $120/pp, so it is not cheaper than Majestic Tours. I would recommend just buying it there rather than from a different company.

We went in February and it was a great experience. I'm not sure if we will go again (particularly in such a large group) because it was very expensive. It was definitely worth it once though.

For as much as they charge PP, I would think about booking a hotel on the beach in Florida at either end of the cruise instead.

Can anyone tell me if majestic tours includes transportation from the ship? On their website they indicate free transport from your hotel, but no mention of cruise ships. I emailed them the question, but got an automated reply that did not answer my question. They offer Atlantis for $130/adults and $90/child.

Does anyone know what Atlantis charges if we buy the passes at Atlantis?

We just bought day passes to Aquaventure thru Majestic and it is my understanding that they do not provide transportation from the cruise ships. So you will have to catch a taxi to the Atlantis. Spoke to someone at the Atlantis they said we should be able to catch a taxi for $5 or $6 per person. Majestic only charged us $120 pp, maybe because we didn't get the transportation?

ZiggyG, your post has been moved to the Bahamas board so it is now in the correct section. Majestic Tours does not offer transportation from cruise ships so cost of the Atlantis Aquaventure without transportation is $120 pp. You will then take a taxi from the ship to Atlantis.
