ClevelandOhio Posted March 9, 2011 #2 Share Posted March 9, 2011 in the major cities and with normal carriers the cell phone systems are pretty much like in the lower 48. However, there are little roaming carriers in the small cities so beware. I am speaking from the perspective of a verizon user.

norwega Posted March 9, 2011 #6 Share Posted March 9, 2011 best thing to do is look at the map of coverage area and roaming for your carrier. Verizon shows coverage in Alaska, and no roaming...
alcpa1 Posted March 9, 2011 #7 Share Posted March 9, 2011 Several of my friends couldn't believe that I was returning calls from Skagway. My Verizon calls from all of my ports were clear as a bell. Do watch it if you cross the Canadian border (from Skagway.) You'll get hit there.
Wanderlost Posted March 11, 2011 #8 Share Posted March 11, 2011 Be careful using your phone while on the ship while docked at some of the smaller cities in Alaska:cool:. I had over $150.00 in roaming charges because I was using the ships cell service. My carrier (t-mobile) issued a credit because I was a longtime customer. Rina155 Posted March 11, 2011 #9 Share Posted March 11, 2011 I have Sprint and had no difficulty at all in Alaska without roaming charges. I had my phone set not to work if it was roaming. The only place I had no service was outside of Skagway at the Goldrush cemetary.
