Bringing a Ukulele or Guitar Onboard

We'll be sailing on Legend this summer. My DS(19) is in the age dead zone, as far as activities go. There will probably be times, when he has nothing to do on sea days. He's more than happy playing his guitar. Would he be able to carry his ukulele or guitar on? If so, would it be okay for him to play on the balcony? Naturally, if our neighbors had a problem with it, he wouldn't do it. He also wouldn't play at night, when others may be sleeping. I wouldn't allow him to disturb others, just to entertain himself. TIA for the help. :)

he can bring it on, but will be confiscated if anyone complains.

Yep... that's the case:

• Musical Instruments: We will allow musical instruments onboard, however, if a noise complaint is received it will be confiscated by shipboard security and returned to the guest on the morning of debarkation.

Thanks for the info. I would hope someone would ask him to stop, before complaining to GS. We definitely wouldn't allow him to play again, if they did. If they feel compelled to complain, we'll be prepared for it to be confiscated. No biggie, as long as he gets it back eventually.

I would probably have him play inside the cabin with doors closed so no one hears him and he can have it for the entire trip.

It is an adventure so I can see him even enjoying it on a beach alone or with friends.

Out of courtesy for others, I would hope he only play quietly inside the cabin. People who are relaxing on their balcony could very well be disturbed but not want to make waves and complain.

Agreed. I would be somewhat disappointed if I went outside and heard somebody playing a guitar or uke. Well, maybe I would be. Im out there to hear the sound of the ocean.

On my last cruise, on a port day, someone was playing a harmonica on their balcony:eek:. Needless to say, I didn't stay out there long, but it only happened that one time. It was annoying.........Guitar music would be better.

I agree that it would be a shame if one could not go out onto the balcony to hear the sea. That is what passengers are expecting and paying for. I would not complain, but I would certainly be disappointed. Now, on the beach one could choose to sit nearby or move elsewhere, but in one's balcony there is no option. It would be great, and much better for him in the long run, if you could encourage your 19 year old to read instead. Have you considered taking a laptop for him?

I tell you what, I'll bring an electric guitar or two, some amps and he and I can set-up shop in the casino. It's gotta be better than the last guy I heard in there.

Seriously though, I think you've got the right frame of mind. Hope he has fun with it.

just a suggestion, but if he has an electric guitar i would take that (without the amp). THey are easier to travel with and the noise level will be cut in more than half IMO. I play guitar and whenever my wife goes to bed i just bring out the electric and she never complains. Something to think about.
