All the dumb Questions

Hi All,

First time on Celebrity Boards, I see the last time I logged in on CC was in 2006 after my last cruise w/our newborn...who is now 6 and a half. Past multiple Holland cruiser. Always enjoyed posting and reading here in the past...man it has been a while

Ok, we depart Miami on a Monday. Century First time on Celebrity, been told it is as nice as Holland

Like to keep the Sunday hotel room under $200-250, any recommendations for a nice place? Close I guess is better. We'll be in the pool w/daughter most of time, maybe stray out a bit at night in Miami but not a big factor.

Best options for transport to hotel from airport Sunday and boat Monday.

The Celebrity Century reminds me of the Maasdam as far as sentiment goes here on this board, which is nice. I like the older smaller ships. We ended up w/a suite for an amazing price, ( it has been soooo long since we had a vacation we were splurging, but the travel agent worked some magic).

Anything special to consider on the Century? I seem to remember seeing a cigar friendly space on the ship but I cannot find it again as i look on the web. I'll have 1-2 during the five days.

Do they do formal nights? Really not a lot of info on Celebrity web site regarding day to day stuff.

We are in Mexico and Honduras..(I think, I'm staying aboard), my wife wants to do the dolphin excursion. Is it better to arrange with or without Celebrity?

Wow..w/all these ?'s am I the poster from H*** or what??

Sorry, it's been a long time.

Thanks all in advance!!!!

Welcome back. You'll find that there is no longer a cigar bar on Century, or any other Celebrity ship. There are very few places where smoking is allowed at all. There is only one place where cigars and pipes are allowed, and there is no smoking on verandahs, in staterooms, in the casino, or in the public rooms (with a couple of exceptions which will be noted on the instructions you get on board).

Celebrity has an FAQ section which will lay out much information, including formal night stuff. There will be one formal night and the rest will be "smart casual and above".

Enjoy your cruise!

We were on a 5 day Century cruise a month ago...could not resist the price.

Hints:

1) if you are going to buy internet time, do it the day you get on board...you will get some extra minutes for buying early.

2) eat in the Murano for at least one meal..it's worth the extra price.

3) walk around the entire buffet at breakfast/lunch before you decide what to eat. There are lot of specialty counters that you will miss if you just join the crowd in the front.

4) Don't miss the martini bar...if you like a basic martini, get it with Stoli Elit (best bargain drink on the ship...if you know what stoli elit costs).

5) Try the sushi bar before dinner for a great appetizer....pretty decent selection.

Welcome back and welcome to Celebrity. I haven't been on the Century yet but I can help you with the hotel. Go to last minute travel dot com. Put in Miami and select 5 stars. The first hotel that pops up should be the Intercontinental Miami. It is a wonderful hotel right on the bay where you can see your ship right out the window when you wake up (ask for a bay view on check in). We got the room for $84 in December. Pricing does fluctuate depending on when you need it and what is going on. This hotel has a nice pool, is a short walk down the boardwalk to the Bayside Marketplace for plenty of food options and there's a CVS directly across the street for last minute items. Here's the description of the hotel so you can make sure you have the right one. It says 5-star hotel in downtown area-Miami.

You can take a cab from the airport to the hotel and then take a cab to the pier. I think it was around $25 from the airport to the hotel and $10 to the pier per cab (not per person).

Here's the hotel website:

"There is only one place where cigars and pipes are allowed"

drum roll please??? No I would never smoke in a public area, but I do enjoy one or two a month.

GHstudio: Funny about the Stoli elit, the best bargain on the Holland cruises was the Hennessy XO at $8 per. I do enjoy the Murano type options, thanks for the recommendation and yes I am quite adept at buffet browsing

I apologize but I could not find answers on the FAQ, but that boils down to my computer illiteracy I would imagine.

Thanks all

Kitkat,

Thanks very much for the tip on the lastminute site. I thought I knew most of the great deal sites but that was a very good deal on the hotel you recommended. Not as aggressive as your pricing but best by far of any site. Thank you again.

I did not see a roll call for the April 11th sailing, pity as I met some nice folks a few years back through this forum on a HAL cruise....oh well, I'll be the short semi balding guy frolicking in the pool all day w/an adorable six year old girl..(Dora or Princess waterwings)....

Wow, only ten days to go...better book airfare huh :-)

We have stayed at the Embassy Suites and they are conviently located and in your price range for sure. You will like Celebrity and it is very comparable to Holland America,We have sailed both exstensivly and the food and service are both great. I think that Celebrity it a little more in terms of the public areas. JMO. have a great cruise.:)

How big is Infinity?

Derf! Nice to know you still cracking everyone up! I've been off CC for 2 years but remember you for sure. I just signed up for a ride on the Eclipse next weekend, so I'm trying to get smart.

I just got off the Celebrity Century today. I'm not sure where to tell you to go to smoke cigars but they sold them on Deck 11, Aft; seemed to be a hot-spot for this type of thing.

As far as the formal night...it's the second day (although it really wasn't that formal). In fact, in terms of what is and isn't allowed in the MDR during their 5 day cruise, there didn't appear to be any policy enforced. On the formal night clothing ran the gamut from tux's to shorts and tank tops. We even saw a guy wearing pajama bottoms, house slippers, and a food-stained, white t-shirt during the 3rd night. Personally, I don't care what people wear, but we made my poor 11-year old "dress up" to follow the rules, only to have "adults" flout the rules.

Anyway, we had a great time...service was spotty and it was a VERY bumpy ride on the second night but overall, your vacation is what you make of it and we made ours GREAT!

Saw you got directed to lots of threads that may help

We did the dolphins ourselves in Mexico - we booked direct in Cozumel and they even paid for the taxi - by booking early we got in a small group rather than end up in a cruise ship huge party which all started to arrive about 10am. We used dolphin discovery. 1 of the party wasn't swimming so we just had to pay his entrance fee at the gate.
