Rare MMDown Under Posted April 5, 2011 #1 Share Posted April 5, 2011 Great discounts on Legend of the Seas South Asia cruises, at the moment. However, on closer inspection, most are cruises of short duration, as well as only have a short time in some ports of call of interest. Who makes these decision to visit ports of call for only a short time? Surely it would be better to have less ports of call on short cruises, but have a decent amount of time in limited ports of call. Then those cruises could be combined with a pre/post visit to Singapore. Kiwi Kruzer Posted April 5, 2011 #3 Share Posted April 5, 2011 They are very short cruises. Wonder if they are aimed at the local Asian gambling market? It would be a long way to fly ,for just a few days.

I have always wanted to visit Malacca, because my husband spoke highly of it, after serving in National Service there, but I want to visit for longer than "10 minutes"! If you were already in Singapore, they could be a great add on for a few days, but I was meaning flying there just for the cruise. When we went to Singapore to join Diamond , we looked at one of those short cruises, rather than a hotel stay, but ended up opting for the hotel. sludger Posted April 6, 2011 #7 Share Posted April 6, 2011 We have done a few cruises out of Singapore on the Legend. Firstly it is a lovely ship, the staff are great. We had the same reservations re the cruise being one where gambling is the main thing. The experience we had was not one of a gambling cruise, there were no groups of male cruisers only families and couples. The typical demographic on the cruises we were on was mainly Asian, (mostly Singaporean who are very nice people) and there were quite a few British and around 400 Aussies. The casinos were full every night though but this was great for people like ourselves that do not gamble. The ship never seemed crowded and there was always room to be found on deck for a quiet read or whatever. I think with the advent of the two casinos now in Singapore there is little need for the gambling cruises for the Asian contingent from countries like China, Korea and Japan. For us, living in Perth, a cruise out of Singapore on a fantastic ship like the Legend is preferable and more affordable than flying to Sydney and cruising P&O. We had a suite on the Legend a couple of times for what we would have paid for an outside cabin on P&O. Paul
Kiwi Kruzer Posted April 6, 2011 #8 Share Posted April 6, 2011 Thanks Paul. Thats really good to know. Might have another look at them now as they are very good value as you say. Also has the plus of hooking it up with a Singapore pre/post cruise stay.:)
