sarafs Posted April 6, 2011 #1 Share Posted April 6, 2011 How can I find out if there will be a Easter Mass on board. My mother will be traveling with us on our Easter Cruise, and she is very conserned about missing Mass. I want her to relax and and have fun. This is her first cruise. SteelerCruiser Posted April 6, 2011 #2 Share Posted April 6, 2011 I believe they try to have clergymen on board for major religious holidays but I would like to know if there was a way to check for sure as well.
klfrodo Posted April 6, 2011 #3 Share Posted April 6, 2011 No Mass on board UNLESS there just happens to be a priest on board who is vacationing and is will to hold a non denominational service. You don't have to be on board the ship until 4PM. There are plenty of churches in the port area.

No churches on the island you'll be visiting? Or, maybe it's a sea day

Justsyd Posted April 6, 2011 #9 Share Posted April 6, 2011 From what I understand, Carnival does try to have clergy onboard, but is not always able to find someone to do the service.
Vettebuf Posted April 6, 2011 #10 Share Posted April 6, 2011 Carnival tried it and nobody showed up. So it got cX. Not true. I remember attending in 1993, 94, and 95. When it wasn't in a large lounge, it was standing room only.
tracy b Posted April 6, 2011 #11 Share Posted April 6, 2011 I was on the Dream last Easter and we had a lovely mass that was standing room only
*Mach* Posted April 6, 2011 #12 Share Posted April 6, 2011 Carnival makes an effort but, as one might imagine, most clergy are busy that day... From Carnival... Are there religious services on board? When available, a clergyman will be on board for Christmas, Easter, Passover, Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur; this is subject to availability of booking clergymen during their most holy days. http://www.carnival.com/cms/faq/default.aspx?icid=CC_Header_466#q-545015
bjfitz0703 Posted April 7, 2011 #13 Share Posted April 7, 2011 When we were on Celebrity they had daily mass. We were told that they and perhaps one other line still do that. I have to say that it was well attended and just a great perc. It was a great touch and showed some real class.
Lady_Jag Posted April 7, 2011 #14 Share Posted April 7, 2011 I wouldn't count on there being a Mass on board. You may be pleasantly surprised if there is one, but don't hold your breath. Could you maybe attend Easter vigil somewhere Saturday evening? If you're in port late enough, you can find a local Catholic church and their Mass times using www.masstimes.org. Good luck! amcankid Posted April 7, 2011 #15 Share Posted April 7, 2011 Reminds me of the time we were in Las Vegas during Easter. We went to mass on Easter Sunday at a little church near Fremont St. (old Vegas). I think it's the oldest catholic church west of the mississippi. Anyway, knowing it was such an old church, I was expecting a really spiritual, uplifting mass. Instead, we got the evelyn woods school of speed reading. One priest, no deacons, alter boys, choir, or anything else. Each of the readings were 30 seconds tops. The homily was straight and to the point(2 minutes). Communion was almost as if he flung the basket of wafers out at one time (just kidding). Total time for mass, EASTER MASS!!, was probably 18 minutes. I told my wife I think the casinos pay the priest to get everybody out as fast as possible.

So was there a drive-thru confessional, where you confess your sins into the speaker, then pull up to the window for penance and absolution?
seashell36 Posted April 7, 2011 #17 Share Posted April 7, 2011 There was a priest vacationing on board the Dream in January. He held mass each evening. There was a good number of people attended different days. You may not know until you board if there will be Easter mass onboard.
