Iamcruzin Posted June 14, 2011 #226 Share Posted June 14, 2011 Is there a charge for the robes? I mean for use on board, not if I want to take them home. No charge. You can go to your cruise personalizer and request them there. If they are not in your room when you get there just remind your room steward. Most of the time they are still in the wash from the prior sailing. They usually bring them in before turn down time.
gepaza Posted June 14, 2011 #227 Share Posted June 14, 2011 Thanks, Mike! The wording threw me off a little when they said that robes were available. I somrtimes get a little picky about wording from 30 years of contracts management. Looking forward to our first cruise! George
coastalite Posted June 14, 2011 #228 Share Posted June 14, 2011 Pack your suitcase at home with everything you need, then open it up and remove 50%. After that, remove another 50%. You don't need that many clothes.

cibaygirls Posted June 14, 2011 #230 Share Posted June 14, 2011 Once you complete your first cruise you are automatically enrolled in the captains circle... you will start to receive benefits and such (invitation to cocktail party on your next cruise, discounts on next cruise, etc... there are not too many "freebies"). I believe they just get all your info from your reservation. I don't recall ever formally signing up for it. Dana

EatPrayCruise Posted June 14, 2011 #232 Share Posted June 14, 2011 On our cruise on the Coral to Alaska last month, we took our "over-the-door-shoe-organizer-dealy. I wondered why we took it and didn't use it on our previous cruise and I found out as soon as we started unpacking. We had a mini-suite and the inside of the bathroom door had two hook-type thingys to hang the robes on. So, the shoe-dealy wouldn't work on the inside of the bathroom door. The hooks that go over the top of the door prevented the door from closing properly and the hooks fell off just trying to close the door. We ended up using it in the closet and just hung it from the bar. Of course, since we only took half of the clothes that we took on our last cruise, we had plenty of room to hang the shoe-dealy. Even though there were only two of us, it really helped to keep the room organized. I could tell my DH exactly which pocket to find the "where's my _________" or "what did you do with the _____________". Works for some folks and others find it a waste of time and money. You decide....:D

There is a chid's bath organizer that I think will work well also --how many towel bars in the mini-suite bathroom?

When we were on the Coral, we hung the organizer from the brass rail at the bar....to the side of the fridge. You can only use about 4 rows, but that was plenty for us. We used it more for charging cords, camera stuff, highlighters, desk stuff, etc. In the mini suite we had enough counter space and shelf space for our toiletries. marz_cat Posted July 7, 2011 #237 Share Posted July 7, 2011 I've just glanced at this thread for the first time, but...my two cents about shoes would be that if you get yourself some really great new shoes for a cruise to wear on dressier nights, don't forget to scuff 'em up good. Nothing like falling down some stairs in the Piazza after slipping on that marble. Really messes with that "oh look at me feeling like royalty" sweep down the staircase! sunneesmile Posted July 7, 2011 #239 Share Posted July 7, 2011 I bring the mesh shoe holder. But I also bring two of those 3M sticky hooks. (the kind with the double sided tape that removes easily by stretching it). I hand the shoes holder on the wall near the mini bar and use it for things like chargers, cords, batteries, etc. All the things that we will need often. Works great
Josy1953 Posted July 7, 2011 #240 Share Posted July 7, 2011 Yes. I carried a my Lumix camera, tissue, and the key card together in a small bag. After the second time the card stopped working the customer service people told me the camera battery was doing it. I separated the card from the camera and no longer had problems. I had the same problem but I found that it was not the actual camera that caused the problem, the leather case has a magnetic clasp and it is this that causes the problem. You will get the same problem if your purse has a magnetic clasp too.
LollyMoz Posted July 7, 2011 #241 Share Posted July 7, 2011 We always pack our clothes in several of those giant sized zip lock bags. That way, if the airlines go through your luggage, it doesn't get too badly messed up. Also, at the end of the cruise you can use one for damp or dirty clothes. We also bring a bungy cord and have used it to secure a case of water/soda to our rolling carry on bag when embarking and have used it on the balcony as well. ChrisB123 Posted July 7, 2011 #242 Share Posted July 7, 2011 If you are a fanatic coffee drinker, there will be NO room service on the final morning ( unless you are in a suite ). Make sure you pack some Starbucks in the can for getting ready to leave the room. Then you can go to the MDR for breakfast. :)

bmdlover Posted July 12, 2011 #249 Share Posted July 12, 2011 Has anyone mentioned a small night light for the bathroom?? Although after you trip over the sill several times, you'll remember that its there. Be on the lookout for them at the Dollar Tree, which carries other useful things for your trip, including the big binder clips to use as weights so the shower curtain won't wrap around you, or magnets so you can leave reminders, on the door. Also, the drink menu at the Adagio Bar (the bar next to Sabatini's) is different cocktails than can be found elsewhere. Try the tiramasu martini or the bellini, or the white and black sambuca. All are marvelous!

Actually, you get 2 in a pack for $4.
