vickie_bernie Posted November 12, 2011 #26 Share Posted November 12, 2011 I believe it is early dec. The star was the first to get the international cafe updates three years ago but she was not able to get everything done like the golden Caribbean and the grand due to some work issues. She will now get it all dIone. So casino and crown grill moved, shore excursion desk moved, ov suites, CC and FCC office moved. Skywalkers is staying only the grand had the issues with it. Star allready had vines, piazza, from previous remodel oh and mutts too. Vickie

caribill Posted November 12, 2011 #29 Share Posted November 12, 2011 Looking at what is available for booking on the Star in 2013, windows suites are not listed, so it appears these will not be added. When we were on the Star in May, many of the slot machines had been removed from the starboard side of the casino. If I remember correctly, we were told that after the drydock work, the casino will be smaller in size. Not sure if it will be in the same location. Teacher_91 Posted November 13, 2011 #32 Share Posted November 13, 2011 <thanks everyone for replying and its been interesting reading updates .....it helps first time cruisers on STAR knowing to expect nice changes on a Princess cruise> Agreed Oceanwavegirl! We will on the STAR in July for an Alaskan cruise. How exciting to know it will be all fresh and new! In the mid 80's I did a cruise with my EX out of Miami on Carnival Cruise Lines. We were booked into what had to be the first Carnival ship, the Carnivale. In order to move from place to place we had to 'pick up our feet' and step over these metal pieces - I'm sure they have a name, just not sure what it is. The 'creepiest' thing was the bathroom floor was so gross I didn't want to step on it with my bare feet, so we laid towels down between the doorway and the shower. The funny thing was our cabin steward started laying clean towels down for us whenever he cleaned our cabin so we didn't have to do it ourselves! Now that is exceptional service! :)
cindiedee Posted November 15, 2011 #33 Share Posted November 15, 2011 We are just off the Star yesterday (Venice) - she is now on her way to Trieste for a longer drydock. It was hard to get info on just what is changing but they did state that Skywalker's will stay as is. They are re-doing the Crown Grill - in fact, the present CG is now part of the Horizon Court (I think that is the name) - anyway, the self serve buffet on deck 14. We always enjoy CG - so, they showed us the OLD menu for CG (black and blue onion soup, lobster cakes, etc) and stated the menu is the same - just now in a temporary location. So, we booked, show up, they give us the menu and it is NOTHING like the regular CG menu. They had NE Clam Chowder in the buffet that day...yep, that was the only soup available in CG - probably leftover. The only thing the same on the old vs new CG menu was the steaks...they were still very good.....but we kind of felt like it was "bait and switch" - show you the old menu with all the goodies on it, then when you show up, it is pretty much a sub-par menu. Oh well, live and learn......this is a longer drydock than usual so we will have to wait and see what actually happens during her time in Trieste! caribill Posted December 29, 2011 #49 Share Posted December 29, 2011 (edited) So has anyone been on Star Princess since the dry docking? I haven't seen any mention of it - or did I miss a thread somewhere...? There is a thread with a live from the trans-atlantic crossing. It did discuss the changes from the drydock. Among them were o wedding chapel moved to deck 15 o steak house expanding into the former wedding chapel area o a redesign of the "Fine Arts Gallery" o adding a dessert area outside the main Horizon court serving areas o changing the "Princess Links" area to a "Lawn Court" Edited December 29, 2011 by caribill
