ansjefitnes Posted May 26, 2011 #1 Share Posted May 26, 2011 Hi all, We are in NY for one day and would like some suggestions for a nice restaurant to have lunch. Best would be the restaurant is not to far from the cruise terminal due to mobility issues. Are there any nice places we can go to? Thanks Maria
138east Posted May 26, 2011 #2 Share Posted May 26, 2011 Hi Maria, I'm sure the New Yorkers will have some specific suggestions, but it would help if you could identify the type of food you might like and an amount you want to spend. The pier is out of the way on 12th Ave, but it is a short cab ride to the Times Square or Rockefeller Center area. I don't think you will find much on 12th Ave, but a short cab ride will take you to more food choices than you can imagine.

Andee Posted May 26, 2011 #4 Share Posted May 26, 2011 Ninth Ave in the 40s has many, many restaurants. 46th St between 8th & 9th Ave is known as Restaurant Row. http://www.menupages.com is an excellent source for restaurant info and reviews. RHefley228 Posted May 26, 2011 #5 Share Posted May 26, 2011 Also on 11th Avenue at 46th is the historic Landmark Tavern: http://thelandmarktavern.org/
RHefley228 Posted May 26, 2011 #6 Share Posted May 26, 2011 And although it's not a restaurant, H&H Bagels is just east of 12th Avenue on 46th Street. If you haven't had an H&H bagel, you haven't really had a bagel...
Rare Got2Cruise Posted May 26, 2011 #7 Share Posted May 26, 2011 I agree that taking a cab would be the best bet. There is nothing within walking distance for someone with mobility issues. Here is one that is not too far away, and has singing waitresses an waiters. http://www.ellensstardustdiner.com/ It will give you a "New York flavor" if that is what you are looking for. Corner of Broadway and 51st Street. Very walkable, but not if there is mobility issues. And, what about your luggage?

KCMiller Posted May 27, 2011 #9 Share Posted May 27, 2011 Will you be eating lunch before you get on board? What part of the city are you staying in? I can make some good non touristy suggestions if I know more about what you're looking for - there are some great places in town! KC
138east Posted May 27, 2011 #10 Share Posted May 27, 2011 It appears the OP is taking a TA from Rotterdam to NY to Rotterdam. She would like to get off the ship in NY and go out for a nice lunch, but someone in her party has mobility issues. IMO trying to walk around the pier area is not the best choice - a short cab ride to a restaurant in the nearby theater district would probably work well for them. bigcraig Posted May 27, 2011 #11 Share Posted May 27, 2011 Is Carnegie Deli to touristy? I HAVE to have Kosher deli while we are in NY for our upcoming Glory cruise.
BobNY Posted May 28, 2011 #12 Share Posted May 28, 2011 Is Carnegie Deli to touristy? I HAVE to have Kosher deli while we are in NY for our upcoming Glory cruise. Touristy or not, Carnegie Deli is NOT kosher.
bigcraig Posted May 28, 2011 #13 Share Posted May 28, 2011 You are probably correct, I should neverr a$$ume that Jewish style food would be at a Kosher deli, I should have just mentioned what I was looking for.
KCMiller Posted May 31, 2011 #14 Share Posted May 31, 2011 I prefer Katz's on the Lower East Side - it's where the big scene from 'When Harry Met Sally' was filmed. SO delicious, authentic, and not glitzy touristy like the Carnegie. KC
