Advise on traveling to Port from Newark

What is the best way to get to the port from Newark. We arrive the night before and have heard that you can take a train from Newark to Penn Station then Taxi?? Is the Newark train station close to the airport?? Just wondering before I book a hotel??

Give us more details. Are you flying into Newark, getting a hotel at the Airport, and then going into Manhattan to sail from NY? There are 3 ports in the area - Bayonne, Manhattan, and Brooklyn.

 

From the airport you have 2 choices - the train from the airport itself (this involves a monorail ride out to the station) - $12.50/pp or an airport bus to Port Authority for $15/pp. In NY you then get a cab to the port. Airport bus will be less luggage handling.

 

Please be selective about your hotel at the airport - don't go for the cheapest price you see out there. Newark is a highly industrial urban area and you want to pick your hotel well. If you're using Priceline/Hotwire don't get anything under 3* - there many be a 2.5* hotel on Hotwire with lots of amenities incl pool - that is OK.

We are a family of 4 and found it was cheaper, faster, and easier to just book a limo. Mind you if there is just one person then this would be expensive, but since there are 4 of us. Try http://www.carmellimo.com they were great.

I'd say about $60-75 plus tolls and tip.
