TxStacey Posted June 8, 2011 #1 Share Posted June 8, 2011 I am so happy!:):) I just happened to check the Royal Carribbean website on a fluke to see if my cruise price dropped. I sail on Serenade in 10 days..and they are running a resident discount...I couldn't believe it!! Anyway, I called them and I have received $710.00 in onboard credit!! WOO HOO!! One note..I booked this cruise back in February of 2010, so it was BEFORE the pricedrop rule changed..so the moral of the storyis it's never too late to check for pricedrops!! Eng23 Posted June 8, 2011 #13 Share Posted June 8, 2011 Just curious - when did the price drop rule come into effect? May 17th 2010. Any cruises booked before that date would be eligible for OBC due to price drops. Any cruises booked after that date are no longer offered OBC for price drops but, if a higher category of cabin winds up being priced lower than your cabin you can get upgraded to that higher category cabin. Just got off Celebrity last week. I was told the OBC is now Use it -or- Lose it!......(In the past, they'd credit your charge card with any unused OBC). I ended up taking the 3% hit and getting a casino advance for what I projected the balance to be at the end of the cruise... SO>......How is RCCL currently handling "left over" OBC??? That is very interesting. In the past it was refundable. I don't know what they are doing now. It would seem that if you booked under the old rules that ALL of the old rules should apply. But it is good that you brought it up for the OP to look into as that is a lot of OBC to go through.

TerriDHair Posted June 9, 2011 #23 Share Posted June 9, 2011 To the OP, enjoy your OBC!! To those who asked, RCCL has had a "use it or lose it" policy for a little while now...can't remember exactly when it started, but within the last couple of years. We've cashed in at the casino cashier and taken the 3 percent hit a couple of times. Luckily, the last time we were cashing $100 ($3 hit) and while DH was in line I noticed a blinking light on a slot machine that said "cash out". I pushed it and out came a $5 ticket! :)

I can appreciate your frustration seeing lower prices advertised. I must, however, remind you that all our fares are based on a fluid pricing system, where the costs of our cruises can both increase and decrease. As well as these changeable fares there are often promotions on offer. We run a variety of promotions throughout the year, all of which are bound by restrictions such as ships, sail dates, and booking dates. These promotions are created by our Sales Department to encourage new bookings and the components on the offer are based around many factors, such as availability, market forces, competitor pricing and the overall economic situation. As I am sure you are aware, later booking does often mean cheaper rates across the whole travel and leisure industry, but there is also a greater chance that the desired option will not be available. This risk is taken at our guests’ discretion, in the knowledge that the availability will lessen as the travel date approaches I can confirm that no refund or on board credit can be offered to you. With regards to the claims that you have read on Cruise Critic it is more than likely that these guests have booked through our US office who are subject to slightly different Terms and conditions and may have been able to obtain a refund. We are sorry that we cannot offer a more favourable reply but we look forward to welcoming you on board Jewel of the seas in August. Yours sincerely ROYAL CARIBBEAN INTERNATIONAL
