AEGBRG Posted June 12, 2011 #1 Share Posted June 12, 2011 Hi everyone. This will be our first time to Lisbon and I just have a few questions. Any assistance would be much appreciated. 1, Does anyone know where the Celebrity Eclipse docks? Is it the port near the bridge? If so, is the port walkable to the city? 2. If not, I would assume Celebrity provides a shuttle. Does anyone know the cost round-trip? 3. Are there cheaper public options into the city such as a bus/metro? If so, where are they in proximity to the port, the cost, and what bus # or metro stop should we be looking out for? 4. Last, we heard Lisbon is easy to do on your own. We plan on walking around exploring the entire city. Are there any don't miss sights/things to do? Thanks in advance.

We were on a P&O cruise that provided free shuttle to the Town Square. There was a Hop On Hop Off bus right in the square which is the best way to see the city with some amazing stops. You will not be disappointed.
iancal Posted June 12, 2011 #3 Share Posted June 12, 2011 We stayed in Lisbon for several days. We very much enjoyed riding the streetcars throughout the old part of the town. It is VERY easy to do on your own.
Barbie075 Posted June 12, 2011 #4 Share Posted June 12, 2011 Does anyone have more info about getting from the port to the city and perhaps a map as how best to get around??
AEGBRG Posted June 13, 2011 Author #5 Share Posted June 13, 2011 Does anyone have more info about getting from the port to the city and perhaps a map as how best to get around?? Same here. Just wondering the best ways to get from the port to the city. Will Celebrity will have shuttle buses? If so, for how much pp round-trip? I assume the Celebrity Eclipse will dock near the bridge?? IF there are cheaper options, where do we go to find the bus station or trolley and which #'s do we take? Thanks

If you are docked at the downtown port, you can walk to the main entrance to the downtown area in about 10 to 15 minutes. Keith
caripoo Posted June 13, 2011 #7 Share Posted June 13, 2011 It is very easy to do on your own. It is a wonderful city!! We did HOHO bus and really enjoyed it!! Caught it right at dock wher our Celebrity ship docked. :o:o
gadaboutgal Posted June 14, 2011 #8 Share Posted June 14, 2011 We have stopped in Lisbon several times on our Transatlantics and did so again in May. Below are my notes: You can catch the tram #12 just outside the teminal entrance: walk straight out, keep to the right and follow the grey/black fence to the first corner-bus stops there, and for only €1.50 takes you into the city centre; takes less than 10 minutes. The tram comes regularly. You can buy tickets on the tram, but it only takes change. Or to buy the all day pass and not pay the €1.50 euros on the first bus: From the ship, walk straight out, keep to the right and follow the grey/black fence You will see a pedestrian underpass and train tracks ahead. Go down the steps into the underpass and come up on the last exit on the left. Exit to the street, turn right and continue straight ahead and you will see on the corner a small silver colored “store” newsstand. You can buy the daily pass (7”Colinas) for about 4.50 euros at this little silver colored shop. Then turn right and Catch bus #28* or #15; in town get off at Praca dos Comercio(which is the esplanade at the river and is the beginning of the shopping street . OR you can continue on into Praca de Figueira where trams/ buses #12,15, 28 arrive and depart from. (There's a display board which shows when the next tram will arrive in real time,) In Praca de Figueira there is a tourist info place=has a big blue sign “CASA DE SORTE” =where you can buy the 7 collinas pass if you haven’t done so already.. This pass is good for all buses, elevators, funiculars, trams ,and trolleys. * From the ship to go to Belem, catch bus 28 going the other way on the other side of the street near the ship. gadaboutgal Posted June 14, 2011 #9 Share Posted June 14, 2011 I forgot to mention that Celebrity and Royal Caribbean ships usually port the farthest from the city by the 25 de Abril Bridge (it’s the road overpass on the Targus River.)
2centime Posted June 19, 2011 #10 Share Posted June 19, 2011 :) You will never need to ask this question again. Here is what you need to know. Go to the Port of Lisbon web site http://www.portodelisboa.com/portal/page/portal/PORTAL_PORTO_LISBOA Click on the flag for English http://www.portodelisboa.pt/portal/page/portal/PORTAL_PORTO_LISBOA_ING Select the top menu for Cruises http://www.portodelisboa.pt/portal/page/portal/PORTAL_PORTO_LISBOA_ING/CRUZEIROS Scroll down & open the link to this months arrivals. http://www.portodelisboa.pt/portal/page/portal/PORTAL_PORTO_LISBOA/CRUZEIROS/PREVISAO_MENSAL_NAVIOS_CRUZEIRO Try the yearly link if you are searching for a ships arrival in the next month. http://www.portodelisboa.pt/portal/page/portal/PORTAL_PORTO_LISBOA/CRUZEIROS/Escalas%202011.pdf Not all ships come into the same dock all of the time, so check. Also a good idea to know this if you are having a pre-cruise stay and need to tell the driver which dock to take you & your luggage to at the start of your cruise. If you need any more help please just Google your-lisbon-guide & get in-touch or tweet me. ;)

My first suggestion is to use the "Search" function on this board for all "Lisbon" related threads/ posts. This way, most if not all of your questions will be answered. - In addition, for ideas (i.e. Alcantara and Rocha do Conde de Obidos cruise terminals by the April 25th bridge), including maps and some tours, use of local metro and trams, please feel free to browse though the online photo albums detailing our pre-cruise experience in Lisbon, Portugal (April 2011; RCI "Vision of the Seas" cruise ship): http://lisbontoengland2011april.shutterfly.com/pictures/1691 http://lisbontoengland2011april.shutterfly.com/pictures/908 and http://lisbontoengland2011april.shutterfly.com/pictures/1669 http://lisbontoengland2011april.shutterfly.com/pictures/2130 http://lisbontoengland2011april.shutterfly.com/pictures/2130 http://lisbontoengland2011april.shutterfly.com/pictures/10 Happy cruising! We, too, used We Hate Tourism Tours and had a great day. We will be returning to Lisbon from a cruise ship this fall, and will try to book the same Tour Company. Can you tell me what camera you have? Thanks Lorraine:) -

On the other hand, I used Panasonic, Lumix FZ35 - nothing fancy but pragmatic and easy to carry.
Steirisch Posted November 3, 2011 #14 Share Posted November 3, 2011 Thanks for mentioning the We Hate Tourism Tours. They have a very cute website and I booked a tour to Sintra with them before our Lisbon departure in December. They look like they'll be a lot of fun. Steirisch Posted November 20, 2011 #16 Share Posted November 20, 2011 We'll be in Lisbon 4 days before the cruise begins, so we'll probably do the HOHO the day before or after the Sintra tour. Cheers.
dolittle Posted December 5, 2011 #17 Share Posted December 5, 2011 We also like Ho-ho buses but in Lispon we found the loop they took was long and took away from our time in the old town .
Bobocasey Posted December 5, 2011 #18 Share Posted December 5, 2011 Public transportation is very easy in Lisbon. Be aware of your surroundings when riding public transportation seems pickpockets love tourist riding them. We were told by serveral locals to watch out for them. We had no trouble what so ever. pearliemae Posted February 8, 2012 #21 Share Posted February 8, 2012 We have used lisbon@toptentours.eu for very reasonably priced tours in Lisbon and to Sintra. Polite, knowledgeable drivers who took us to some great places for pastries and lunch. They can arrange trips to your liking and we have been more than satisfied with the great service. They even built in a shopping stopover at El Cortes, besides a stop at a great bodega to pick up some local wine. Usually do not like to rec businesses, but this company was memorable.
