nytraveller53 Posted June 15, 2011 #151 Share Posted June 15, 2011 Hmmmm... do you think this comment is rude? "I think I hear Mommy calling you up from the basement for dinner...run along, now." Maybe. But that was in response to another rude post, and wasn't designed to actually be rude - it was a way to get a point across. In other words, it's more figurative than literal. When I say "rude users", I mean consistently rude. Everyone is going to be a little snippy at some point in their CC career - just like everyone is going to be a little snippy at some point in real life. Now, why did you pull up a post that had nothing to do with the CURRENT conversation? Just looking to pick?
Cruisingzs Posted June 15, 2011 #152 Share Posted June 15, 2011 I agree with the first post and dont blame him for cancelling his upcoming cruises,i am booked on the dream for april 2012 and if i hadnt booked a cove balcony then i would cancel mine as well ,and i will be seriously considering not to cruise again unless i can afford a balcony stateroom,i really think there will be alot of smokers doing the same,if theres one place we enjoy having a smoke its usually when we are relaxing in our room but thats been taken away now so i hope all you non smokers are happy,we pay alot of money to enjoy our holidays just like you but non smokers seem to think its all about what they want, what about what we want. maybe there should be a couple of ships that are completely smoke free and we can choose which one we would rather go on and see who makes more money, the non smoking 1 or the smokers and i bet its the smoking 1 cause i reckon that we buy more alcahol as well. As we both pay the same amount of fare, we should have the same conditions. If you want to smoke on a ship? Charter one and smoke away. As we are not allowed to walk around naked on the ship or other rules the cruise line empliments, why should this be any different? As aomeone else posted, the damage to the ship from smokers is alot more than what they receive from any perceived profits smoking MAY bring
BeachChik Posted June 15, 2011 #153 Share Posted June 15, 2011 Are you serious? Really?! Yes I am. But this board has a pack mentality and when one attacks, many attack. Most of the thread is downright rude and nasty. Apparently you can't convey your thoughts without being rude. I notice the tag line on your signature is gone. Couldn't stick to the lets all be nice? D-Roc Posted June 15, 2011 #154 Share Posted June 15, 2011 Yes - I received word from John Heald that this rumor is, in fact, true and will be policy. Too bad - I was looking forward to my next level of Milestone but will now not cruise any of CCL's lines. I remember the debacle and laughing stock that Paradise was in the late 90's then when they painted over the NON-SMOKING signs in 2003. I am in the night club business and Carnival should have learned by the paltry liquor sales aboard Paradise that banning smoking=lower occupancy and far lower alcohol sales. Oh well. Not my problem anymore - shame on you Carnival... You had a good thing going and are now trying to be everything to everyone and that isn't why I cruised your line. [and yes, I did cancel my Seabourn cruise as well. Why cruise with a company that makes ignorant decisions?] The only ignorant (and childish) decision here is yours. There is more demand for non smoking as non smokers vastly outnumber the smokers. it only makes business sense to attract the majority to your product. ItsAllAboutTheSass Posted June 15, 2011 #155 Share Posted June 15, 2011 So....If you sold at CCL's lowest trading price today, you have an additional $194K. Seems like it was a good day for you.
maggie cruises Posted June 15, 2011 #156 Share Posted June 15, 2011 This is a bit of an over reaction. You need to adapt. People went through these things at certain points in life. Remember when you could smoke on planes? People still fly Even as late as the 70's you could smoke in hospitals in certain areas. I saw a new mother smoking in bed with her newborn in her arms in 1994!!! I complained and the answer I got from the nightshift per diem was.."I spoke to her and she says she is addicted to cigarettes, so the only thing I told her was that she has to smoke in the hallway, not near the baby" Next morning the Head Nurse came in and apologized profusely for the night nurse's idiotic statement. The hospital was recently closed down...had too few patients choosing to go there.....any wonder

Hummer Guy Posted June 15, 2011 #160 Share Posted June 15, 2011 If you had 100 passengers split into two groups. 90 people in one group, 10 in the other. Then, you had to decide which group to make happy and which to tick off, since they had opposing views. As a stockholder/CEO/business owner - which would you choose? mikedw Posted June 15, 2011 #161 Share Posted June 15, 2011 When the smoking ban took effect here in Maryland, the bars and clubs were worried about losing business, but it never happened. More people go to them now that they're smoke free. Even private clubs are smoke free here. I was on the Paradise when it was smoke free and loved it. Eventually I believe they will all be smoke free or having smoking confined to one small area.

Pretty fast decision to sell, wasn't it? John - I am not canceling without thinking first, but this is truly the 'straw that broke the camel's back' for many of us. Well, we had fun cruising with CCL 4 times a year until now. Shameful business decision. I better sell my stock while it is still worth anything. Elaine515 Posted June 15, 2011 #164 Share Posted June 15, 2011 Ok if OP cancelled two cruises in 2011, and the ban does not take effect until Dec. 1, 2011, he had two cruises booked in December? Otherwise, my PVP says you can't cancel, unless your cruise is after Dec. 1, 2011. Am I confused? According to John on his facebook page you can cancel without any penalty until June 30 because of this new change... UGGGGH.. Bye LHP.. Enjoy your fare increases. You won't be missed. LHP is not leaving Carnival and never will... She was saying bye to someone else... And YES... she absolutely would be missed if she left
luv2sail7 Posted June 15, 2011 #165 Share Posted June 15, 2011 Peace out, homie! Good luck trying to find a line that's less restrictive. RCI and it's lines are far more restrictive from what I've seen. Given that I recently watched my grandfather die due to the effects of a lifetime of pack-a-day smoking, I have little sympathy for smokers - including my own mother. Your habit is killing you slowly and causing my health care costs to skyrocket, so give it up already. The least you can do is not endanger my health with the toxic smoke you enjoy filtering through your lungs. Get an e-cig, have a few drinks, and stop whining. Agree with you a 100% percent! Same here with my family members - I've watched my older sister (only 50 and in great shape) have two heart attacks which the doctors all stated was directly related to her smoking and then my mom last year almost died for the same reasons. And health care costs!!! Kudos to Carnival! I may now consider jumping off Celebrity and back to their brands with this change.
CruisersNC Posted June 16, 2011 #166 Share Posted June 16, 2011 Its important not to make kneejerk decisions over future bookings or share dealings. The smoking rules would have changed anyway, as with all rules & legislation, they evolve constantly...for a variety of reasons and despite what some here may think, these changes would not have been made flippantly or with any lack of forethought. CCL knows and understands full well that their decisions will always impact how people perceive them...its a risk that every business must take occasionally. It would be crazy to pull bookings without alot of careful consideration...sleep on the rule changes, weigh up if they will really impact your cruise experience, give them a try on your next cruise...you may well find that they do not impact your cruise as much as you fear they will...until you try it, you cannot truly comment or have an opinion that is not a kneejerk opinion. No-one likes change, but things must always change...its a fact of life, like it or not, but it would be a great shame for people to drop CCL without trying to adapt (if any adaption is needed) to the new rules and if you cruise and its not for you, then you can make an educated decision, not a decision based on what might be. Very well written...I wholeheartedly agree.
Hummer Guy Posted June 16, 2011 #167 Share Posted June 16, 2011 I still find it odd that smokers always say that they are courteous and accommodating to non-smokers. Then, Carnival says today "We'd rather you only smoke on your balcony, in areas of the casino, areas of the casino bar, jazz clubs, and designated areas on open-air decks. "UNACCEPTABLE! My RIGHTS have been violated! I'm going to file a lawsuit if you ever contact me again." This hardly seems like being accommodating.

Hummer Guy Posted June 16, 2011 #170 Share Posted June 16, 2011 Shameful business decision. I better sell my stock while it is still worth anything. As a stock holder, you think choosing to appease 10 percent of your customers instead of 90 percent is a wise business move? Can you say that with a straight face? The stock didn't go down today because of the smoking announcement - the stock went down because the entire market has been declining for a month. MissRabbit Posted June 16, 2011 #175 Share Posted June 16, 2011 the subject of the OT is misleading. There is not a smoking BAN. There are still many places (the nightclubs, part of the casino, the outer decks on the port side, the balconies) that still allow smoking. The only real difference is that previously unaccessible public areas (for those who cannot physically be around smoke) like the piano bar and most of the casino are now accessible and free to use for *everyone*. No one is stopping you from using these places either. You just have to get up, go outside for a quick smoke, then come back. It's that simple.
