Just canceled 2 2011 and 1 2012 cruises and sold 5600 shares of CCL Stock SMOKING BAN

I am a ardent non smoker, but as long as smokers obey the rules and don't blow their smoke in my face then I'm okay with it. And if I'm in an area where smoke is permitted I don't complain, I just move. I have been on the Paradise 10x in the past 4 years and have never smelled smoke in the cabins.

I have never been in the Piano bars because of the heavy smoke in there, but I plan on going in there on my next cruise. :D

On my last Paradise cruise, there were a few smokers who thought they could smoke anywhere they wanted. Some decided they could smoke on the port side of the aft lido decks right by the large NO SMOKING signs. I immediately went inside & found the Lido officer who raced out there to stop the guy from smoking.

Also there are signs on some of the slot machines that say "smoking is permitted when playing at this machine". I kept seeing the casino hosts go over to this 1 guy repeatedly telling him that he has to play at a machine or table to smoke. After the 3rd time, he got mad & left.

OP - If you don't want to sail on any CCL ships good for you. You should stick to your convictions. I refuse to shop at 1 very large electronics store because of the sales price tactics.

Respond to what?

Well - for the record, the OP's point in posting this was to alert other smoker's that we are being discriminated against once again by Carnival (who else remembers the fiasco we went through when they banned smoking in the aft lounges? Anyone, anyone, Beuhler?)

Nobody is being discriminated against. Nobody. You are allowed to cruise. Discrimination would be telling you that you cannot cruise because you smoke. Telling you where you can or cannot smoke aboard the ship is nothing new. Stop with the inflammatory buzz words.

I LOVE ridiculous overreactions. They haven't banned smoking, you can still smoke on your balcony, in areas of the open deck, and in a few lounges.

And as a non-smoker, who gets watery-eyed, and starts coughing up a lung when im around cigarette smoke, and who can't stand the smell of worn clothes that have been soaking in cigarette smoke for hours in a smoky piano bar, not to mention the lingering smoke smell in the cabin if the last occupant was a smoker. I am more than happy that they've reduced the number of places people can smoke.

People should still be able to do what they need to do on their balconies, on the open deck, and in the jazz/cigar lounges on board. If that's not good enough, well I'm sorry, but I'm tired of coughing up a lung half the night just because I wanted to go have some fun in the piano bar.

ALSO, Anyone who thinks this will negatively impact Carnival's business is, to be honest, out of their mind.

New York City and surrounding counties have banned smoking in restaurants and bars here for years, and the business has not diminished in the least. In fact, since then New York City has become one of the culinary/mixology capitals of America (not that it has anything to do with the lack of smoking), but just to say that it hasn't dried up business here, I don't see why it would on the high-seas.

Love your post....all the predictions of the sky is going to fall when they ban smoking has never happened. In California the clubs and bars are thriving and there is a total ban. In HI we do not even allow smoking on our beaches but the tourists keep coming. I wish Carnival would get with the times and go with a total ban on smoking on ships. Why should I be put at risk by hazardous air or potential for a ship fire. Right on Carnival!! :):):)

I think some of the "rude users" are upset that they're finally being "discovered". Above all, my "tattling" (I can't believe I'm even saying that...) will help the community as a whole, eliminating some posts, and hopefully users, that tend to destroy otherwise fine threads.

edit to say........not worth it.....

As usual you are wrong. He died of stomach cancer, not related to smoking. He lost most of his left lung in the 60's and quit smoking then. Nice try though.;)

Here is some bedtime reading for you to enjoy:

Wayne had been a chain-smoker of cigarettes since young adulthood. In 1964, Wayne was diagnosed with lung cancer, and underwent successful surgery to remove his entire left lung[26] and four ribs. Despite efforts by his business associates to prevent him from going public with his illness (for fear it would cost him work), Wayne announced he had cancer and called on the public to get preventive examinations. Five years later, Wayne was declared cancer-free. Despite the fact that Wayne's diminished lung capacity left him incapable of prolonged exertion and frequently in need of supplemental oxygen, within a few years of his operation he chewed tobacco and began smoking cigars until the day he died.

I never smoke in my cabin anyway - this is more about the Piano bar and other areas... It was bad enough a few years ago when they banned smoking from the aft lounges...

At least NOW I will be able to visit the Piano bar without coming down with bronchitis.

Can't wait for them to ban smoking in the dancing venues. I love to dance and never get to hang out in there.

I may even lose some money in the casino, since there will be less smoking there!

Yes - I received word from John Heald that this rumor is, in fact, true and will be policy. Too bad - I was looking forward to my next level of Milestone but will now not cruise any of CCL's lines.

I remember the debacle and laughing stock that Paradise was in the late 90's then when they painted over the NON-SMOKING signs in 2003.

I am in the night club business and Carnival should have learned by the paltry liquor sales aboard Paradise that banning smoking=lower occupancy and far lower alcohol sales. Oh well.

Not my problem anymore - shame on you Carnival... You had a good thing going and are now trying to be everything to everyone and that isn't why I cruised your line.

[and yes, I did cancel my Seabourn cruise as well. Why cruise with a company that makes ignorant decisions?]

You will not be missed.

3. To the person who said "for my 1 cancellation, 10 booked", thank you for proving your total ignorance (that is, unless you are the passenger services director in Doral, FL).

I'm glad to see you bit on those numbers...They are about as believable as your 5600 shares and canceling 3 cruises. Anyone that involved in Carnival will in no way take that action just because a smoking policy changed...You can STILL smoke! You have a weak poker face. You are fustrated and that's cool. But I don't take any "stock" in what you say you gave up.

No, but if what you say is true, both spellings are acceptable. Therefore, Diva is correct.

CC is a worldwide forum. What if Diva happens to be from Britain?

Interesting that the OP decides to focus on this, rather than respond to the 50 other people against him...

Against him? Why would anyone be against him. He has a right to spend his money where he sees fit. I fail to understand why people take it so personal when someone says they are going to sail a different line (this is true of all boards on CC). People act like he is talking bad about their child.

This is a bit of an over reaction.

You need to adapt. People went through these things at certain points in life. Remember when you could smoke on planes? People still fly

Even as late as the 70's you could smoke in hospitals in certain areas.

I am done with this.

And, when his mistakes were pointed out to him, he went "wah, wah, wah" all the way home. :)

Synthetic, I've been thinking about your screen name. Doesn't "synthetic" mean "fake" or "phony".

Maybe you should change it to "Prosthetic" to reflect the lameness of your arguments. :D

Love ya... mean it.

That's exactly what I want you to respond to. You started this thread, now you should defend your actions to us! Otherwise, what was the point of this thread?

I have no dog in the fight as I could care less either way, but come on really. He/she doesn't have to defend his actions to anyone especially some random person on a message board.

What is the point of any thread? To start a discussion, that doesn't mean they have to justify anything to you.

Fishon, I agree with you totally. I remember back when I was told that I couldn't let my mule poop in church anymore. I was scandalized and sold all my shares in the hymnal company which that church used. I guess I really showed them!

But now I have adapted and gladly take my mule outside when nature calls.

i applaud you. voting with your $$$ is the only thing companies understand.

CCL stock fell 3% today, btw

No big deal. The newly lowered stock is going to be bought up by us waiting in the wings. Like the OP, buy low sell high. He said he bought his at $15.11. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE keep unloading your stock. I want to buy several thousand shares at $15 and smile big when I can sell at $40. You have lost your mind if you think this is going to negatively impact Carnival. If it was, they would never have made the change to begin with. In this case, they are not putting the cart before the horse, they are doing exactly what NINETY percent of their cruisers want. Just like 2009, you may see a TEMPORARY sell off and then a rebound. You will be crying in your cigarette smoke filled haze. I will be smiling big with healthy lungs :) PLEASE, I implore you, sell, sell, sell :D
