When was your first cruise?

Our first cruise was our honeymoon in January of 1981. It was a 10 day Eastern Caribbean cruise aboard Home Lines Doric out of Port Everglades.

Our first port stop was Cap Haitien. We tendered ashore and walked around for awhile. I remember the children would dive into the water to retreive coins tossed by the tourists. Such a poor country.

Service was outstanding. Everyone had there own teak deck chair (no chair hogs!!), and every morning it would be pointed toward the rising sun. There was Horse racing in the lounge and skeet shooting and golfing off the stern.

I think the cost was around three thousand for the two of us in an inside cabin. We had a ball!

It took us 25 years to cruise again. Boy, did things sure change.

My first cruise was on the Sensation, September 1997. We traveled all the way to Florida to take her to the Eastern Caribbean (San Juan, St. Thomas, St. Maarten) only to find out when we arrived in Fl. that the ship had been re-directed to the Western Caribbean (Ocho Rios, Grand Cayman, Cozumel) because of Hurricane Fran. Imagine how disappointed we were to find out, that for the most part, we were going to Mexico (and we're from Texas). We could have driven 7 hours to the border (LOL). In hindsight - thank you CCL for making our trip absolutely AWESOME - instead of heading into a storm that would have kept us in our cabins for 7 days!

My first cruise was in 1977....It was a senior class trip from high school. We left out of New Orleans on a ship called the Kazakhstan. It was a Russian cruise ship and from what I remember most of the crew were Russians. Just trying to see who else has cruised such a long time ago.

Other than the Good Ship Lollipop in Pittsburgh, Pa, our first cruise was for our honeymoon in 2003 aboard the Norwegian Star.

My first cruise was also with Epirotiki in 1980, but on the Jupiter to the Greek Islands and Turkey. I was amazed at how wonderful cruising was and promised myself I would do it again one day. Well, its's 53 cruises later we are still in love with cruising. And 3 more planned for the next 7 months!

How neat that you remember the name of the ship.

We crossed the Atlantic from NY to London on a Greek freighter that was completing an around the world "cruise" so there were not too many wonderful foodstuffs. It was May of '68. We all ate with the captain. No entertainment. We asked the captain if we could therefore take the wormy apples they were serving at breakfast out to the cargo of horses we were carrying. Permission granted. The other part of the cargo was gold bouillion, so because of its weight, we had very little other cargo.

How wonderful..I am absolutely terrible on photo posting ...I must learn how to post that ship and a few photos of that cruise..I look forward to the day I make my list longer...this was a special trip and we had a native guide and historian from Greece on the whole trip...it was awesome to see Cairo and Jerusalem..I was ill in Santorini..LOL..so definitely must return... the Med is on the list..I just drool over the specials I see for Europe cruises..especially the Med...thanks for response!!!...:). Wasn't it something? While nothing like they have now..there were some special things long gone on a small traditional ship..service was so fancy in dining room...I really remember that served from the platter to your plate thing, they were always there..white uniforms....and just all of us on top deck in the sunshine and all the wonderful people and sharing the history and life and just everything..such fabulous memories...thanks again for responding...sarah:)

My first cruise was Sept 13 2001, just 2 days after 9/11

and since the airports were closed down, we had to drive to Tampa from

Atlanta, talk about an empty cruise. I'm sure a lot of people could not make it because of the airports being closed down.

loved the cruise but it was a sad time too, I can remember the

wait staff singing "God Bless America" one night and waving flags, it was so touching.

College graduation in 1981 from Miami on Costa's Flavia with 9 of my sorority sisters. Because we were 10 ladies who loved being together, we had a great time. However, the cruise was awful! A four-day cruise, I had SO much wished it were only three!

My mom was a Love Boat fan and really, really wanted to go on a cruise. I was unable to convince her that cruising was not like it was on TV, and booked a four-day Bahamas cruise on NCL's Sunward II in 1984. We had a great time--it was just like TV (except for the small rooms).

When Carnival's Holiday was brand new, I couldn't resist trying again--and was absolutely hooked! Now I have to cruise at least once a year.

it was great, the only bad part was us 2 were sitting at a table for 12 people and we were the only ones there... we finally ask to be moved to a small table...

and when the staff sang and waved the flags, it brought chills to you and

a few tears ( i'm not ashamed to say )... it was pulling everyone's heart strings...

1st cruise- 2001 on the Destiny out of San Juan; airfare from Dallas cost ore than a 7 day cruise!

I had always wanted to cruise but my DH said he would be bored; what is there to do for 7 days? Within the first 5 mins on the ship he was ready to book our 2nd. That first night he won $1500 in the casino and we booked a cruise as soon as we got home for our 10th anniversary.

My first cruise was in Feb. 2010, After the saints won the superbowl!! We had to celebrate somehow!! We went to Cozumel on a 4 day out of New Orleans. Cozumel and Key West are my two favorite ports so far!! So I know I haven't been cruising that long but I will def. not go on any other kind of vacation ever!! It's simply the best!!
