USA Today contest--Name the new ships!

Still have to disagree....Inaugural Festivities and Christening Ceremony does not mean a cruise. These events take place while the ship is docked...not underway. The EPIC was docked in NY for a couple of days for her Inaugural Festivities and Christening Ceremony.

I see nothing indicating that you will be onboard for the inaugural cruise...which takes place BEFORE the ceremonies mentioned above.

I see what you mean, but based on the prize description in the official rules, I think it is referring to the cruise:

6. Prize. The Winners will each receive the following prize ("Prize"): A trip for two (2) to the first ship's inaugural festivities, including the Christening Ceremony. Location and date are to be determined but will be on or about spring/summer 2013. Trip includes the following: round-trip coach air transportation from a major airport closest to the Winner's home to point of embarkation/debarkation, ground transportation to/from destination airport and point of embarkation/debarkation, balcony stateroom accommodations (double occupancy), on-board meals, government fees and port taxes. (ARV: USD $3,500) Spa services, casino, gift shop, excursions and any optional onboard expenses are not included. Actual retail value will depend on the Winner's proximity to port of embarkation/debarkation) and date/time of travel. If Winner lives within a 200 mile radius of the point of embarkation / debarkation, no air transportation will be provided and the difference will not be provided in cash. All terms and conditions of the Sponsor's Standard Ticket Contract of Passage, as well as those stated in the General Information of the Sponsor's brochure, shall be applicable to this promotion and cruise passages. In the event that the same contestant submits both Winning Names, that Winner will receive a trip for two (2) to the second ship's inaugural festivities, including the Christening Ceremony. (ARV: USD $3,500) Location and date to be determined but will be on or about spring/summer 2014. Trip for two (2) to the second ship's inaugural festivities, including the Christening Ceremony, will be subject to the same terms and conditions as set forth above.

Yes Mike, I did make my suggestion as a joke. I don't necessarily agree with that characterization, but NCL is thought of that way by many people whether it is right or wrong. I do hope they pick interesting names though.

Hooray! I love a name the ship contest. Why, I was one of 22,000 others who submitted the chosen name Norwegian Sun in a contest way back when...;)

I am so vain that prior to the Epic name, when there were two ships to be built, I wrote in to Miami office my two names as I thought they were perfect back then (Aura and Luminar)! They did not have a contest back then. LOL. Since that time a motor vehicle and another cruise ship have something similar so those two are now out. I think I even suggested how the hull could be painted to match the name. Remember years ago we all talked about all the different names here on CC?

But I thought of two more after a long night of reflection and research.

Gosh I hope they do not see mine and exclaim, "Oh no, not her again!"

Anyway, I submitted with no problems at all. I think the rest of North America is in bed by now?

Good luck to everyone and have fun with it because it sure is not easy!

Any opinions on the final selections? IMHO not especially inspiring or imaginative, and almost seems to have been a foregone conclusion given the Project name. Have to think that many of the submissions would have been better choices.:(

In addition to all the OBVIOUS jokes that could be made about these two names, I was just thinking how funny it would be if NCL used the old Enya song "Sailaway" for their commercials for the Breakaway and Getaway

Breakaway, breakaway, breakaway...

Getaway, getaway, getaway...

LOL! Could be the most obnoxious marketing campaign ever...
