Rare Got2Cruise Posted July 21, 2011 #1 Share Posted July 21, 2011 I bought a beautiful crossbody purse for my Baltic cruise. It is so gorgeous and a fine quality of leather. I found it on a markdown sale from Nordstrom. Problem is, it is such a fine quality, the magnet they used for one of the pockets erased my key card.:D. After the second time, hubby figured out how to remove the magnets with a razor blade. The ship was getting suspicious, like I had a scam going. lol
Wayfairers Posted July 21, 2011 #2 Share Posted July 21, 2011 Those magnets turn on the car mode on my android phone. Apparently the stand sold for car use uses a magnet to automatically put the phone into car mode. Very annoying!!
Joanne G. Posted July 22, 2011 #3 Share Posted July 22, 2011 That happened to me a couple years ago, with a new black clutch I had bought for fomal night. Very annoying! I found another one in the onboard shop, with a non-magnetic closure, for the second formal night.
cb at sea Posted July 22, 2011 #4 Share Posted July 22, 2011 Your cell phone can clear your room key, too...beware!
Rare Lois R Posted July 22, 2011 #5 Share Posted July 22, 2011 Hi, :)anything magnetic can affect the room key. Your camera, another credit card, etc.... When I am using a small purse in the evenings I always keep my room key in a separate area. My formal purse has a credit card slot and my key always goes in there~away from anything that can disengage it.
patseacruiser Posted July 22, 2011 #6 Share Posted July 22, 2011 Take it from me - those strong magnets on those cross body bags can not only clear your room key- it can clear your credit cards and bank cards so you could be left with no spending money except cash. Luckily my husband still had cards on him that didn't go in that bag.
Pennyscandy Posted August 2, 2011 #7 Share Posted August 2, 2011 My favorite Brighton bag has magnets. After getting locked out of my hotel room twice I figured it out. Now I put the hotel key-card in my business card case and have never had another problem. Got a cute Vera Bradley card case and it serves 2 purposes. Host Faith Posted August 2, 2011 #8 Share Posted August 2, 2011 I never really thought about that until my Mom bought me a hard-sided expandable wallet. So convenient, and now I don't have to worry about where everything is in my purse :D
flamomo Posted August 3, 2011 #9 Share Posted August 3, 2011 I had a bracelet with a magnetic clasp that I just love. However, I had to stop taking it on cruises after it demagnetized my key card 3 times on a cruise before I figured out why.
