thesky13 Posted July 25, 2011 #1 Share Posted July 25, 2011 DH and I are looking forward to our first luxury cruise now that the kids are grown up. First luxury cruise of many we hope! So our only cruising experiences up until now have been the family trips with the kiddies on Carnival/Royal Carribean type ships. Cattle lines and crowds *everywhere*...ugh! Particularly painful was the embarkation process and muster drill. I've read plenty about the smooth embarkation process on Regent. What about the muster drill? What can I expect? ChatKat in Ca. Posted July 25, 2011 #2 Share Posted July 25, 2011 Muster Drill is held in the Theater. You put your lifejacket on and hear what to do in case of emergency. It's a requirement on all ships. It's usually done just before sailaway.
Travelcat2 Posted July 25, 2011 #3 Share Posted July 25, 2011 Welcome to the Regent board! Muster is done fairly easily on Regent. Passengers are directed to different sections of the theater. How long you have to wait there is dependent upon how quickly everyone gets there. After the typical demonstration and putting on your life vest you are directed outside by your lifeboat station (weather permitting). If the weather is poor, you will skip this part. It is normally completed in about a half an hour. The line into the theater is one of the only ones you will encounter. You will enjoy the calm atmosphere, lack of announcements, crowds, etc.
Threechicks Posted July 25, 2011 #4 Share Posted July 25, 2011 You don't have to put on your life jacket anymore.
rallydave Posted July 25, 2011 #5 Share Posted July 25, 2011 You don't have to put on your life jacket anymore. And, we've yet to need to go outside. The drills have ended in our muster station and we've then simply taken the life jackets back to our suite. Also, you go to your muster station which is listed on your door and not everyone goes to the theater. We've also gone to Horizons.
Travelcat2 Posted July 25, 2011 #6 Share Posted July 25, 2011 Guess it's different -- depending upon . . . not sure what. We've had to go outside about 50% of the time. The no life jacket thing must be specific to Regent. Two months ago, on Silversea, we were still putting on the lifejacket.
Responder Posted July 25, 2011 #7 Share Posted July 25, 2011 On the Navigator this past December, we simply went to the ShowRoom...sat down wherever we wanted...watched the demo on stage and went back to our cabins for the block party..maybe took 20 minutes. Threechicks Posted July 25, 2011 #8 Share Posted July 25, 2011 The no life jacket thing is a new rule affecting all the cruise lines. It's up to the individual cruise line whether they go along with it. This May was the first time I had experienced it on Regent.
Anna B. Posted July 25, 2011 #9 Share Posted July 25, 2011 On the Mariner in June we had to put the life jackets on and also had to go outside to the life boats.....possibly this is at the discretion of the Captain? Regardless, it runs smoothly and is over very quickly.
Wendy The Wanderer Posted July 25, 2011 #10 Share Posted July 25, 2011 On most of our 10 Regent trips we've had to go outside on deck after some kind of indoor instruction. This is so you know where your muster station is. Not a big deal, and over in a jiffy.
SunnySunflower Posted July 26, 2011 #11 Share Posted July 26, 2011 First time poster but not new to Cruise Critic as have lurked for years. We are enjoying Voyager right now. We were told to put on our life jackets for muster. Have done this differently on different ships so not a problem. These are smallish life jackets btw. As we walked into the theater a passenger with a very loud voice called us idiots for wearing the vests. We have been on Royal Caribbean and Celebrity ships and this is our first on Regent. It was not a nice way to start, but a good example to our teens about how not to behave. I must say the staff on this ship is wonderful. A few minor mishaps both for us and the ship which is always the case but otherwise we are enjoying ourselves.
thesky13 Posted July 28, 2011 Author #12 Share Posted July 28, 2011 Wow! So sorry to hear that, SunnySunflower. That is incredibly rude! Hopefully he's the one blemish on an otherwise great trip.
