dingoboy Posted August 28, 2011 #1 Share Posted August 28, 2011 If we choose select dining: What time are the shows generally on celebrity ships. ON RC if you went to early dinner you went to the late show. If you had late dinner you saw the show before you ate. But have read some comments indicating that if you have late dining people go to the shows after that, making for a very late night. Is that correct? Reservations. If you choose select dining do you have to make reservations every night, I know you can do this online before sailing, but can you just walk up on the night instead? And if you do, is there often an extended wait? Thanks, James
Kana boy Posted August 29, 2011 #2 Share Posted August 29, 2011 Just got back and had select dining. Shows were usually 7 and 9 with a couple of times at 7:30 and 9:30. We just went to the port side main dining room and could either choose to be seated with others or just the 2 of us. It was very well done and we had no problems. We usually chose to eat with others and met some very nice people. Enjoy your trip.:)
Coloradohawk Posted August 29, 2011 #3 Share Posted August 29, 2011 We were on the Solstice last fall and did the Select Dining. We made reservations before we cruised. Chose the earliest dining time and were able to make the early show. Really liked this as it left plenty of time after the show for whatever. karenbeanpole Posted August 29, 2011 #4 Share Posted August 29, 2011 On the Eclipse, the shows varied from 7pm and 9pm to 9pm and 10.45pm. Select Dining - just go whenever you like and they'll seat you. Table for 2 or share with others, depending on your preference. To get one with a view, just go as early as possible. Anytime between 7 - 8 is the busiest. 6pm and 8.45pm were great times to eat.
CaptData Posted August 29, 2011 #5 Share Posted August 29, 2011 If you pre-book your dining times and they conflick with show just go when you need to ie before your time for example and cancel your pre-booked time when you go in or show up late for your time (because you caught the early shoe. lovespositano Posted August 29, 2011 #6 Share Posted August 29, 2011 We have done Select on four sailings now and really love it. On the last cruise we prereserved the same time for the entire cruise before we sailed. If you show up at that time, you will bypass the line. If you show up at some other time, you just give your name and they seat you - no problem. Best of all worlds, at least for us. And the food/menu is identical to traditional seating - and you are in the MDR, just upstairs.
Wayfairers Posted August 29, 2011 #7 Share Posted August 29, 2011 We never had a reservation for select dining and never had a wait.
Rare Hlitner Posted August 29, 2011 #8 Share Posted August 29, 2011 We never had a reservation for select dining and never had a wait. We are also in this category. We have used Select Dining (and similar schemes on other cruise lines) on many cruises and do not ever make dinner reservations. Not having to eat at a specific time (or make a decision on what time to dine in advance) is why we like Select Dining. Unless you are planning on dining with a large group, want a table for 2, or you want a specific waiter, we just do not see the need. When we decide to dine we simply present ourselves at the dining room and ask to share a large table (we love meeting other folks). Most of the time there is no wait if you are willing to share a larger table. For folks that do want a table for 2, it probably makes sense to reserve unless you are prepared to wait a few minutes for a table. Hank
